Well that makes sense to me too.. I notice there's a 95W energy efficient edition out.. it's on overclockers.co.uk and it's £160. I could be tempted to go for that if my budget can stretch that far. I'm taking a wild guess, but I can imagine I'll need a whopper heatsink/fan for one of these..

CPU coolers are about £28 or so.

These chips apparently can be overclocked by silly amounts and still not need extreme cooling solutions.

I've just opted for a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro in my 'to-buy' list. It's on OCUK and has great reviews from people with a Q6600.

My list now is as follows:

    Thermaltake Soprano Midi-Tower
    Quad Core Q6600
    Asus P5K
    2GB Corsair 6400 C4
    Geforce 8800GT 512MB
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2 16MB
    Logitech G5 Gaming Mouse
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro cpu cooler

£655.64 (not including postage and variable if i find cheaper deals on other sites).

Not bad for the budget imo!

Not bad at all! I plan to build a similar machine on a similar budget just after Christmas. My current one is going to develop acne pretty soon....

What's the difference between the 8800GT and the 8800GTS?

Not actually true. The GT has out performed the gts models in some parts, and I'm pretty sure it even matched the gtx at one point. The main deciding factor for buying this card is that it's waaay cheaper but still has potential to match the performance of the so-called better models. There's also an updated version of the gts and gtx models coming out soon I believe so buying one of those right now could just be overkill cos they'll probably be coming right down in price before long. I'd rather use the money I'm saving to get something else.

Obviously if you aren't bothered about spending the money the GTX will be the best but unless you can happily go and pay so much more when there is such a poor performance to price ratio, I wouldn't bother. Then again I'm on a pretty demanding budget :p

£37 on www.komplett.co.uk for this week only

I think this week is my lucky week. There's a Inno3D 8800GT for £144.99 delivered which is great since the Inno3D got the best results in the benchmarks on the site I linked to above and all other brands are about £180.

Also, GeIL 2GB PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency ram on offer for ~£40 delivered. :D
