the best linux build is probably slackware :)

but if you've never used linux before, i'd recommend red hat 7.x or SuSE :)

My favourite out of the windows series is 2000.

2000 is the one I use and recommend.

Out of all the os that I've used (I've used majority of the microsoft builds) 2000 seems to be the best at resources management and stability.
    Its only my opion though.

    Bring on Longhorn.. :D

Yeah, but we're not going to see Longhorn betas until 2004 and it won't be out until 2005.

At the minute it's all about XP Tablet and 2003 on servers.

    agree with the slackware bit...

if they havent used linux tho ad go for mandrake - nice and simple...

as for windows tho - xp all the way for me, its far superior to any other windows build.

its when ms got windows right, finally! ;) :p

Longhorn will have "a SQL Server 2003-based file system" and is due for release in 2005.

    Yep. It's called WinFS.

There's slim chance that they may release a Windows XP Second Edition with WinFS later this year.

Personally, I don't reckon that will happen, but we might see betas, or something of it soon. A new file system is too big a deal for them not to have a massive public test before releasing it proper.

    Well I'll be....

"I've gotta pump for UNIX, with a special mention to SCO Open Server 5."

May I shake your hand? (seriously). Truly good taste. Rarely hear people speak of such systems.... woot!

    ----
As for the poll.... *shudder* :p
    ----

Ah well, woot once more :D

Its been confirmed that WinFS isnt a new file system at all - underneath it will still be NTFS on longhorn, but this new WinFS is just the yukon sql technology running as a system service that allows access to files on the filesystem...

Its not as fancy and new tech as we all initially assumed... shame really.
