i dunno like, one listen to say the early leftfield or orbital stuff was enough for you to know that it was a classic, but I take your point.

the first time I heard bizarre inc playing with knives the quadrant mix in may 1991 before all the hype about rave in october of that same year I instantly knew it was a classic

and the same with song of life by leftfield in 1994 / 1995

sometimes you just know that these tracks are immense and will stand the test of time

I struggle to name anything in the last 3 years that I have thought that is amazing

First time I herd that was at the Ritzy about 1992 but a lot of rave was mainstream back then, a bit like trance was few years back.

Isnt that because you mostly go to "Hard Dance" nights

i think was constitutes a true classic, be it ANY genre, is that anyone can play it in any set, and get the same reaction from all.

for example, 'born slippy' in a indi set or something like that.

modern classic? 'artic monkeys - look good on the dance floor' ....ok ..ok... not a dance tune but u get my drift - ANY genre

    errr no

in the last year I have been to wax:eek:n , backlash, freaky dancing, evolve, junior g, thimblby, sketchy munters etc etc etc

to be fair the only thing with hard dance on that I go to is the night we run

probably would have checked out error too but 9times out of 10 it has clashed with something else I have been at : generally evolve

    pidgeonholing is tedious

    people should embrace all music

and tolkien essays in promo and flyers should be banned

    :)

rave never really went mainstream til autumn 1991 like

march til september that year was just an immense time

all the music was just so raw and fresh
