    it was better

    FACT

theres nothing that has been released in the last 3-4 years I would label as a classic

but there are loads of releases from 88, 91, 96 and 99 THAT ARE ABSOLUTE CLASSICS

electro and minimal has a lot to answer for

If you asked a 21 year old they would say there was loads of classics from the last few years and there has been. Those 21 year olds will be saying exactly what you are in 20 years time..not that im saying you look 41 or owt

melt, I've noticed a striking similarity between your appraisal of dance music in "the good old days" and the ramblings of my parents about how "every track in the 70s was a classic and music isn't as good as it was then" etc...

nostalgia or growing out of it all? you be the judge

It's part of the typical ageing process, it's not just limited to music.

name me 1 track from the last 4 years that is equal in greatness to either derick mays strings for life from late 80's , underworlds born slippy from 95/96, cafe del mar by energy 52 from 1997, or paul van dyk's for an angel from 1997/1998

Thats a circular argument - the tracks you have listed above have stood the test of time, the tracks from the current era have yet to last that long. You can't just say "yeah thats gonna be a classic" the first time you hear a track...

my worst clubbing moment of the last 3 years was when a dj at Waxon played a breaks remix of For An Angel followed by a breaks remix of Shined On Me

but isnt the stuff that came out years ago (1999 onwards) just getting "classic" or anthem status now?

music in 1991 wasnt that great FACT

my "recent" classic would be No one on earth by above and beyond. that sir, is a tune and a half.

What a load of rubbish have you heard what plus 8 records R&S and aphex twin were doing in 91 Joey Beltram Energy Flash plus there were loads of other stuff way ahead of of its time. Then you had alll the piano stuf sasha was playing
Check the footage of him playing in blackpool in 91 and show footage of a trance night with that atmosphere.

Oldschool is popular due to the simple fact the tunes even though some had ropey production values still rock dancefloors.

At Energy Flash,Freaky Dancing,Detox,Regeneration crowds full of 18-24 are still going mental to the oldschool sound. I know 18 years who collect oldschool rave records.

There is good stuff now and some that will looked back on in 20 years time as classics

But you never going to beat Your Love by Jaime Principle and that was made in 1985.
