i ain't slagging promise and i don't wanna put my own night on - i personally don't think there's owt wrong with promise, and i love going, maybe the crowds are small but so fucking what? some miserable ghets might bitch and moan about it but they're not helping the situation. i wouldn't also say promise is 'too hard' at all but to the everyday baja/boat/legends/quayside people its too much for their sensitive ears...

did you add the numbers? nice touch?
look mate, i dont wanna get into a huge debate with you, im simply stating that i dont think there are enough good nights in the city, thats all.
and before you say once again, put your own night on, its not something thats ever crossed my mind, nor ever will.
and who says i class myself as a serious clubber? i wouldnt class myself as one at all, i just like going to good clubs, with a good atmosphere and good music.
and no, the bigg market aint good enough for me, i fucking hate it with a passion, cos it isnt to my liking, i dont have to justify myself to you.
this clearly aint going anywhere, i cant be fucking arsed having an argument that goes on all day.

you have your views, i have mine, lifes too short

arena crowds are easy to explain, you get all kinds of people going there - why? - cause its a big one off event with top name djs that everyone knows - you get people from all over the country coming - its a one off event - of course people are going to make the effort - it's a special occasion. People do like a change.

a lot of stuff you said i did agree with mate, i wouldnt know the first thing about running my own night.
promise and shindig do pretty much cater for my tastes, its just when i think of places like leeds where there are 2,3 even 4 big nights to choose from, i get a bit envious.
im happy with promise and shindig, i guess its just a bit more variety im after thats all, and a night out at the quayside and the boat aint really my cup of tea!

The crowd that Promise is drawing in is not necessarily the crowd it's trying to cater for, which is why it is not working.

You have to make the destintion between your credible clubber and at the other end of the spectrum your sharon/tracy and kevin/perry type 'clubber' which there are a few unfortunately.

The mere fact that people are welcoming/warming to the idea of Dave Pearce playing soon speaks volumes and it's not good.

People can say it's a good move because its Promise doing what it wants to do, which is fair enough, yet if it wants to compete and be up there with the best, it has to run on the same track/rules and know what's ok and what's certainly out of bounds.

DJs which arent pulling in the crowds at Promise are packing them out at other clubs, there is nothing wrong with the club, It has more to do with the clubbers themselves and not knowing good intelligent music when they see it.

They say you shouldn't walk before you can crawl, maybe it should just crawl

i know, the council want to win things like european capital of culture, then they have clubs which shut at 3am, occasionally when things get wild, 4am!
yeah, there arent that many decent venues that arent already used on the best nights.
there are venues which im surprised have been used, cuba cuba for sundiss for example, but there aint a lot of new things happening really is there?

i hate corporate wankers like first leisure, luminar etc. they suck the soul out of everything dont they??

sounds like a plan. summat needs doing to stop the city being turned into mainstream heaven, and being left behind while leeds, manchester, liverpool etc continue to grow

newcastle's crowd is more 'lager lager lager'... simple as that. if promise we're in leeds or manchester, it might be a different story. The other reason the 'everyday clubber' is put off cause of the door price. I've heard a few people say "£10? feck that" - for the type of club it is - thats about average - but for newcastle - it's pricey - people aren't always willing to try things.

what kind of night would it be then? what do u reckon would suit the newcastle crowd?

as far as attracting new clubbers to promise goes, foundations location doesn't help... ok its away from all the shite and this might be seen as an advantage but 2bh a lot of people in newcastle don't even know where the venue is so the potential to bring new people (or educate as some of you would say) is diminished because people dont see the club- and unfortunatley the majority don't buy what they can't see....

but theres fuk all u can do about that...

newcastle differs from leeds because it has towns such as huddersfield, halifax, bradford, harrogate, wakefield etc surrounding it which it draws from... the same with manchester...
your never going to get more than a few successful clubs in newcastle because the population base isn't there, no matter what the council does with late opening... (tho i agree it would help)

as far as attracting people who used to go to promise, back, i think less posters with the same names on might help.. theres only so many times u can see matt hardwick and still be excited...

biatch and glitter where talkin about that scared "butterfly" feeling a while ago and how they didn't get it b4 promise anymore.. maybe promise is getting a bit mundane for the regulars...

maybe more yoji and less ornadel would work?

    imvho

So true, anyone who'd read the board before Matt's 5 hour set would have expected it to be rammed.....but the turnout was poor.
