i think obviously if u dj yourself then u notice the errors, its like if u totally uninterested in footy, u might not mind goin to pub cos u have a laugh there but its not so important as to wether or not a certain team wins, or how they play! its easier to notice how a dj performs if u understand whats involved. i notice usually when theres a bad mix, but it doesnt spoil me night though... just a small glitch and if the night keeps pumpin and theres not mistake after mistake then £10 is money well spent!

but yeah on the dj front, if u dj or know all the ins and outs of the music, its easier and more noticeable when a mistake is made. others might not notice so much!

i think the problem is some take the criticism (spelt right??) too far and make too much of it! :)

yeah, cos you learn, you learn from the big names, i do the same, i listen out for mixes sometimes, especially if its a DJ i admire and aspire to. Otherwise I just enjoy the music.

So, my point being here is, how many out of all the people/friends/baord members you know are actually DJs, aspiring to be, wannabe, have decks etc?

Theres quite a few!!! even just off this board, and we all do it, we all listen to the mixing, because its what we do, DJ wise.
    Theres nothing wrong with that....

    BUT!...

...how many people you dont know in Promise or other clubs across the country etc are doing the same??? This whole club culture seems to be changing to a DJ culture....

maybe this contributes to the whole seriousness of clubbing now.

what do people think? anyone see my point?
Cos i really do think theres too much DJ competition round thesedays, decks have outsold guitars.

I suppose in all honesty I don't look out for the mixes you know - but if one goes bad you do notice straight away! When I'm out obviously wanna have good time & that so don't stand there waiting for the mix. Like people have said you do notice if a mix goes wrong just when your dancing away if its like really bad.

I would agree with that. If you are involved in doing something yourself, it changes how you see others doing it.

I also think if you DJ it can kill off some of the 'rush' (for want of a better word) that you get from tunes, as you can hear them too often. I won't listen to Kerry at home very much, because otherwise when she plays out I don't get the same buzz from the music she plays as I have heard it too often.

thing is, we all walk away after a night of clubbing saying either:

    "he/she played a great set!!!",
"did you hear that mix of....."
"what tune did they play 2nd last?"

    OR

"he/she wasnt really that good, lost it a few times etc etc"

    INSTEAD OF >>

    "What a mint night!!!"
    or
"I had such a good night"
or even "didnt realy enjoy myself tonight"

I just think the way club culture has changed into DJ culture we are starting to miss the whole pont of clubbing, going out with our friends, socialising, entertaining and enjoying ourselves.

YEP, i can relate to that.

Ive been looking for new avenues with some hard trance and my techno sound, cos its more exciting now than just listening to your usual trance. I got to admit i get bored of trance now, too much of it, too many local DJs as well as big names playing it and you hear the same tunes over and over again.

Clubbin for me is about havin FUN!

I go out to have a good laugh with me mates, and possibly meet new mates........

Would be lyin if a sed that it didnt mattter to me if the DJ wasnt technically good.......if they make mistake after mistake it does start to affect things for me...and others too no doubt.

If however they only make the odd mistake (sometimes unavoidable!) then I can live with that and get on with my nite!

The main thing for me is the tunes that are played out.....as long as they aint spoiled by VERY bad mixing then i'll have a cracking nite!!!!!!!!!

As i plan on doing tonight :D :D

Its not about going out and meeting new people coz it just happens even if ya dont want it too - i mean how many times in a night will ya look round when a tune is dropped and everyone is :D :D shaking ya hand n that !!

Clubbing for me is about the DJ's for a start - i know ive said it before and it probably will happen but if ya not gonna like a night why go ? For me its normally a case of having no will power and with me mates going them being there will make it better - if ya going knowing ya gonna like the DJ with ya mates too then its just class - with ya girlfriend is even better  - when im out i do tend to be a bit of a geek when it comes to the DJ's mixing n that but its there job innit - there expected to be good as i am where i work and when they do mistakes they get shit coz theres that many people can hear it   - as for the DJ itself the tune selection has got to be right aint it otherwsie everyone will be :( :( all night therefore its not enjoyable - when im out theres loads of people ill see weekly or whenever it is and everyone gets on which is a bonus !

Mainly i just go out to have a good night enjoy the music enjoy the social side of it with my mates and go home with a :D :D on my face as ive enjoyed myself along with me mates and enjoyed the music the DJ's played in the club that is my local :p ;)

Im glad ive sparked of such an interesting debate. Give me a minute and i will quote from a book, which i think somes it up perfectly.

I listen out for mixing too, if only to learn more. Mixing wasnt always there. The mixer wasnt even invented until the end of the seventies, and then a DJ was about as important as the glass collector, how times have changed!!!!!! I think mixing should be treated as a bonus for the night, its there but it doesnt have to be. The only people who make it any other way is the clubber whos demand dictate who reaches the top!

I think I have said it to Ness (A FEW TIMES!!!) I go to be entertained.

I personally wont go to see a DJ who talks about educating clubbers.

Also nowt beats when you and all your mates going for it to a top TUNE. COME ON!!!!!!

Clubbin is about being with people who are like minded.....who feel comfy in there surroundings.....would you like to go clubbin in Ikon.....i think not......the whole club thing is about the ambience of the place and the people in it.......the DJ brings all those people together from the very first tune......up until he hits the peak when he drops that tune that everyone knows.....a night can pass sometimes because it was that good that it feels like its passed in a flash........thats clubbin...... :D
