this is a valid point...........my cousin never wanted to be anything except a firemen when he was little now he is in the process of cpmleting a degree so he can leave beacuse of how bad it has gotten.......

nothing to do with pay as £23,000 a yr at least 4 doing their hours is a gud wage in any1's books!!!

& footballers should b amde to give a percentage of their wages to those who r living in poverty!!!!

    :) :) :) :)

I think £23K is a crap wage for a job as skilled as that. It may be cool for a 20 something with no commitments but if you have a house, a car and dependants it wont go very far at all (IMHO).

I dont believe that any fireman in there right mind would just stand by and watch someone burn to death, no matter what the circumstances are.

haha they were trying to put out a car fire the other day on gosforth high street, and when they had (eventually) put it out it went back up the street with these two lads outrunning it.

    quite amusing i thought.:D

other ppl manage to survive on less than that.....they also have commitments such a sa house, a car & dependents............

it's called living within ya means!!!!

admittedly it is a fairly skilled job but they have adequte training 4 these things.........

    **see godscrashers point**

the firefighters joined the brigade knowing what their wages wud b like so if they didn't like it then why b a firemen in the first place!!!!

(apart from to wear the uniform!!! ;) )

i would love to have their job..iam on about a shitty £12k a year i think, ive got a house a bairn no car,no second job or nowt..theyve got a lot more than most of us have. They say they cant survive on what is it £24k a year, plus another £5k a year from their second job, also theres nothing stopping their partners working is their so in all they get around £32k a year if they both work..or more.

Most fire fighters, when there not working their 3 day shift (*tiring aint it*) are working as london cabbies..

Why dont they just stick some ladders on the cad along with a hose pipe in the boot, and if theres a fire near by they can be contacted through their CB,and to raise extra funds for the fire service why dont the fire engines have meters in,so when their not working putting out fires they can hail passengers through the morning rush hour.."where ya going luv"

    :D

    Right:

    1) They knew the fucking salary when they started and they have recieved pay rises as inflation has demanded. I know that they risk there lives and everything but you knew the risk and the pay when ya started.

    2) I agree that they do deserve more.

    3) I do not agree with the way that they are going about doing it. What the fuck is the point risking people's lives to get a couple more quid each day. FFS grow up and realise that due to you ideotic (spelling) behaviour people could be dying.

p.s. I do not know a good way to resolve this.

Couldn't be arsed to read the whole thread so forgive me if I repeat others views.

I know that in pay talks you should ask for a bit more than you want but they didn't do themselves any favours by asking for a 40%'er staraight away.
I know sitting behind my PC increasing the size of my Lurv handles isn't nearly as dangerous, but I couldn't imagine even asking for that percentage nevermind being given it!!
3-4% in line with inflation across the board at my place.
