Im currently taking a year out at the moment! gonna either go to Uni to study Fitting/Maintenance Engineering, or go into an Apprenticeship if i can get one! Currently working at The Mushroom bar in town as a Barman, tis pretty cool, pays reasonable + bonus at the end of the month:up:

Unfortunately, our firm doesn't run an Apprenticeship scheme. Even if we were looking, i wouldn't advise you applied, cos the type of work we do is very limited. We manufacture parts for Komatsu in Birtley - from pissy little parts with one hole in, to big outrigger legs that attach to the excavator arms. And it's the same stuff, day in, day out. I'd suggest looking at firms like the Express group of companies (make a broad spectrum of components) or Ford Components (Aerospace), far more interesting and much more likely to keep you interested if you go for the Apprenticeship option.

I never took either route of uni or 'ship, I just began button pushing and worked my way up. DON'T DO WHAT I DID! I so regret not getting formal qualifications, i feel trapped working where i'm at now.

Luckily for you, you've got your age on your side. I believe the age range is 16-25. Most Apprenticeships start around September time, generally taking on the school leavers. Best thing to do is send off as many CV's as you can to different companies, regardless of whether or not they're advertising. Even go as far as to hand deliver them. If you can show them you're keen enough, they'll sit up and take notice, 'cos these days you need to stand out from the crowd.

I was a communications engineer, now a network manager for a mobile phone company. I do very little apart from walk round in a suit and play on the net all day.

Also work for Alibi Records and DJ here and there.

Also full time pervert I'm told.
