at the same time you can over do just about everything. i hate djs who deck wank, thinking they're gods when they're doing something that many others can also do. for me the element of suprise is what it's all about. the last two months i've seen kentaro, krafty kuts and had the pleasure to warm up for dexter, now these three were awesome. kentaro's set still amazes me even now, just how did he do what he did!

Can you not structure a set while 'having loads of fun twiddling their effects knobs, and taking max advantage of the loop button'?

Even if you didn't use any of the fancy features you could still pull off a set the same as you could with vinyl. Skills like set structure, reading the crowd etc have got nothing to do with what format you're using

I aint got nothing against Cds, I just have a vinyl addiction. Also downloading for free is ripping off ur fav artists who u shud be supporting. I hav no doubt that Cd dex are as good as using record dex and do love all the technology that goes with professional djing. However, I will be sticking with vinyl until I can 1, afford decent cd dex, and 2, downloads hav to be paid for via p2p programs in order for eeryone to support the artists!

That's exactly what Sasha said in DJ mag after spending so much time with Zabiela. He went on to say how he had been practising verh hard with the CDJ's etc.

CD decks are class and really easy to use but isnt it all about the tunes u play and not the format????:spangled:

Course it is but DJing is undoubtedly moving away from simply mixing 2 records together. I read a letter in DJ mag from someone saying even CDs aren't the future, mixing MP3s is

True but many Djs are using decks and cd decks together including myself, it does make it more fun but I doubt that vinyl will be killed off!

Labels like Defected and Underwater already have all their releases available on CD. Can't understand why more don't - the production costs are far less

Not for a while. Too many people swear by it. In 10 years though I think it'll be much less used as more and more high profile DJs are making the switch

True but I dont think its a case of a switch between formats, more of a combination. It shows you are more skilled as a performer if you can use different equipment, its just the same as performers who can play several different musical instruments.

Look at final scratch, if mp3s are the future then this means vinyl will still be used. Most equipment is far too cool to not use alongside your decks, as Jimmy said it makes it more fun.

endorsing cd decks does not mean you d/l tunes to play!!!i would not do this, and the same goes for any dj worth anything!!!

i use the cd decks to play tunes off albums, tunes form unsigned producers, and edits of tunes i already have on vinyl!

The only time i would use a cd deck is if i was playing somthing off an album or somthing from a bedroom producer.

You don't need final scratch to play MP3s,they can be played through computers or actual MP3 players,MP3 decks are on the market now. They're probs better for putting together a studio mix rather than live

i would love a cd deck, it would open up lots of limitations in cost and music library.

but like i said. CDs physically hold no worth, people with a great bootleg vinyl cant just pop it in a vinyl burner* and make copies for hundreds of people for less than a hundred quid.

they just arent cool yet. i know its delaying the inevitable but if u pick up a cd and look at it.. it really is worthless. They give them away with magazines and newspapers for christ sake. they just dont have the feel that makes u get the impression u own something special.

long live vinyl!.. but lets hope CDs do continue in the business because they do open lots of limitations
