I have to agree. It is also worth remembering that these people are not thinking straight or logically. Therfefore, it's hard to argue that they are being selfish/stupid/want attention etc. I doubt they know what they want really.

Also, half heartedly slitting your wrists is a cry for attention. I don't see how jumping off a bridge to certain death is (unless of course they never intend to jump in the first place).

Jumping off a bridge has got to be in the bottom 5 of ways to seek attention like

When i used to work at the sage we would see/hear of about 1 a month. most of them never jumped. People who actually DO want to commit suicide usually do it. they dont wait for shit loads of people to turn up.

I agree tho if you were going to do it - would have to be somewhere rural or another country or the cocktail of drugs option. You must have massive society issues to want to paint the quayside with blood and brain.

Theyre probably in a situation where they dont have anyone they are leaving behind, or anyone worth knowing. Just imagine you were a heroin addict with no job, you had no family except a baby, some drug addict friends. everything about life you hated, you couldnt afford the things you needed. that childs life would be better off without you, and you feel no need to go on.
that doesnt seem selfish to me, in a way you could help people. sounds horrible but could well be alot of suicidee's life stories.
