    its a slave.

    SLAVE

I am assuming in need to set that to master?

Can i whip off the cover from the old 13.6GB drive, and whack it on the 40GB to make it so?

i'd set the 40gb to MASTER, the 13gb to slave.

BUT when u re-install windows ONLY have the 40gb attached

    does that make sense?

Ok, can I whip off the cover thing, swap it to 40GB, then not connect the 13.6GB ( I cant even get the fucker out, it must be what came with the pooter)

then fix up the 40GB drive again, put it all back together and switch on with the XP CD in?

Then I select clean install? or format or what?(i dont fancy taking any chances and want to wipe it, as thats where viruses from 2002 were found)

    So will that work?

is there anything on the 40gb? if u format it - you'll lose everything on it.

"Ok, can I whip off the cover thing, swap it to 40GB, then not connect the 13.6GB ( I cant even get the fucker out, it must be what came with the pooter)

i think im missing some off the diagram of the jumpers. Will it work if i set it to

"Master with a non-ATA compatible slave"

or will i have to see more?

The other option is "Enable Cable select" but I dont have that do i?

shining a torch in, it looks like there is already a cover thingy on there which makes it a master actually, it was black so I didnt see it before.

Wondows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.

Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.

    Ah shit.

Ive got the damn xp cd in though??

    i'm back!!!

Right, have them BOTH on cable select - but on that webpage - see the position they have to be on the cable.

AND only have the 40gb connected while re-installing XP

been into the setup, it had IDE0 as the first place it tried to boot up from, Ive changed that to IDE1, then the CD ROM. Its now searching the CD for the Boot record. Not found. Surely it should be?

Ok, im going to have to change it, it looks as though it was master - the thing on the 13.6 is way different to the thing on 40GB, i could pick the 13.6 GB off, but not the 40 GB one.

its really inconvenient for the end one to be the master - it wont stretch, there isnt enough stuff

it does 13.6, cd rw, cd, floppy then 40GB.

you may be able to see that on my pics.

Like i say, I cant move the 13.6GB drive, it has screws on the other side I cant get to!
