You'll just need to open the first rar. It'll unpack the program using all 6 automatically. You'll probably need to follow install instructions in the readme file and use the supplied crack etc before running the program.
Aye none of the 6 downloads will open without a password for the encrypted file, the links for the key gens dont work as well? Where can i go from here cos i cant view no read mes without this password i presume?
Oh shit. the password may be a problem. The keygens will be fine i have them. Hmm.. I'll get back to you. try: 4shar1ng *oh, and AVG will no doubt bug you to death saying MRI.exe is a virus. IGNORE it. It's a false positive. Adding mri.exe to the list of exceptions is a good idea, or just close down avg, as the mri will run several different virus scans anyway.
UnRar'ing just the first file should unzip them all as one folder. They're only in seperate files because the restraints on rapidshare won't allow files over 200mb to be uploaded.
I have extracted the first one outa the six and there's fkn loads of folders, again all to be extracted.
Im litteraly lost here there's that many files, i dont know where to put things and dont know what to do?
Hmm.. opening the first rar file (GSMRI__July2008.part1.rar) with winrar, and extracting it to a location on your hard drive, should extract EVERYTHING from all 6 rars. You shouldn't need to open any more of the rar files after that. The result of this, will be ONE folder at the location you chose, with all the files for the MRI inside there. Have you got more than one folder?
From looking at the downlaods etc, it appears there should be an image (.ISO) file, not a folder full of files.
I extracted and got loads of folders with : Boot Compression Utilities Diagnostic EFI EXBoot Halp Isolinux Malware Sources Web Browsers Windows Tools XPRC Ars Allrapidshare Kingdom Autorun Bootmgr MRI Win51 Win51IP Win51IP.SP2
What program did you use to extract? It sounds like the content of the .iso file has been dumped on your hard drive.
if i were you, i'd just back stuff up and re-format it properly, its alot less hassle and should in theory take off the trojan. on the fresh boot of the machine use one smaller partition specifically for the OS and the rest on another partition for file/folders/programs etc, then when it happens again (which it will, no matter how much money you spend on daft subscriptions with McAfee etc) you only have to format the drive with the OS on, sorted. thats what i do, and have done it 3 times - it's got rid of some canny serious problems and the format took about 2 hours in total.
Yeah format is the best way.. but not for much longer. With my new pc, if i want to format, I have to find a way to backup ~500gb of media. It was much less trouble just running the MRI for me. Seems geordie is having troubles though. In theory, he should just have a .iso that he can burn to cd-r and run before he goes to bed.
500gb? external hardrive? i know someone who's got an old tower full of internal hardrives rigged to some device that connects it all together, and he uses that to back eeverything up, around 4tb as well
I was gonna get an exernal hdd, but I'd rather just keep all my settings etc and media where it is if I can help it.
i've got 3 drives, main 160gb (programs and OS) then 2 350's - the 1st has all my data/music/photos on it and the 2nd just a mirror that backs up either weekly or when i want it to if u need a stand alone trojan remover, here'a good one : http://vil.nai.com/VIL/stinger/
and just as an end note - i've been backing up my music etc weekly by putting them onto DVD, its a nice system since i'm getting quite a Music DVD collection going
MOS i will try it now and see what happens. Mr.B i will delete that muckle winrar file n see what happens with the Stinger. If all else fails i will re-format, or at least try to Much appreciated everyone
What's this MRI business all about then? You could also try reinstalling windows but without a drive format, but this reduces the chances of getting rid of all the shite. The advantages are that application entries in your registry remain intact - so no fannying about reinstalling everything. AVG + the latest Spybot is a good combo; set weekly scheduled scans in Spybot, and use the system settings protection. I've not had any serious issues with spyware/viruses for a very long time, but then I don't tend to steal music or software from dubious websites
