You should definitely install SP2, using that, firefox, avg and a decent firewall should keep you (almost) clean as a whistle

Are all the files safe on the comp when installing SP2. Made a back up of the important ones but should i bother wasting doing the rest or will they be alright?

Back up your important files, and if you feel you really would miss something else, back it up too. Highly unlikely owt will go wrong, but it's always best to backup your files on a regular basis anyway.

Took your advice and got all ov these installed (using sygate for firewall) and every thing is looking good except it is a bit jumpy and when using msn 7 if any winks are sent the comp goes to 100% CPU usage and freezes. Are there any important plugins to solve this?

with sp2 my wireless connection seems to be a little erratic.

is this anything i can sort?

Update msn, early versions of 7 have a flaw with the animated winks that allows remote code execution (ie nasty shit).

Or be even safer and use GAIM or Trillian instead
