Decided to email adidas just now, more or less copy/pasting my post above. Got this reply about two mins later:

She either doesn't know, doesn't care, or both.

them seven quid plimsolls are good like, ive went throught 20 or so pairs in the last year and a bit. they look a lot smarter than stan smiths or nike court traditions for clubbing in, and are a lot more dispensable.

and yes dandava the two army suplus shops in town must make a fucking killing off them, everytime i go in to the one on clayton street hes fresh outta packs of size nines, and the one next to the firestation always tells me that ive got the last pair haha. its daft really like because ive got 30-40 pairs of trainers, yet wear seven pound army sandshoes more than any of the others

    Those plimsoles are absolutely shit

I love that they are trendy yet when you were at school, you would have got monster slaps in the changing rooms if you wore them to PE

same goes for Gola and Dunlops....after all the ribbings we gave people for wearing them , i would lose any self respect i might have had if i bought a pair of them

you mean 'penny blacks' or whatever they were called? you'd rip bit of the rubber off to chuck at your mates

gola was a sin, dunlop too - even hi-tec were a crime - addidas, nike or reebok - or pony

hi-tec, gola, bull boy, la gear, british knights, troop, converse, and anything with velcro were all punishable by death in mortimer like.

nowadays if its not a hiking brand/bought from blacks/ld/tiso its not worth knowing.

cos you could get reebok classics 2 for £35 from royal quays they were the lowest form of acceptible footwear in our school, it was always the air max triax, bw classics or tailwinds....even 95'-97's were looked down upon.

then came the rockport/lacoste battle of the 'smart' shoes. was either them or base loafers.

christ kids have it hard
