bah im outgeeked in this newsgroup business nee chance im handing over credit card details to pirates
I know... thats a bitch. I wanna download all the .nzb files but can't due to the fact I require premium credit
u dont u daft get! yuou pay using services like paypal! and its LEGAL - that newzbin site - cos its just making it easier for you to download whats already on usenet.
does it not also give the police access to your details so they can come and arrest you for illegal downloading
not in the slightest. it aint illegal to download the NZB files. if you then go on to download copyrighted material thats different. but that would be dealt with by ur ISP - who have all your details anyway
Bri, mind if I move away from the title of my thread for a second? Can you explain what exactly newsgroups are in stupid non geek terms.. I've tried to understand before but failed miserably.. do I have to pay anything? will it make any difference to what I can search for? will the speed make any difference over a 2meg connection? and what software do I need? ta
Basically newsgroups are just like bulletin boards. a place where people post stuff, be it just messages or attachments (mp3's, video's, games etc..) You can use your ISP's news server if its any good, but what you usually find is that they are missing loads of part's of files. Which is why it works out better to pay for a dedicated news server service (such as ngroups.net). You then just get software such as Grabit, enter your news server details into that... Then finally - to make it easier, you sign up to something like newzbin.com - and pay for "premium credit" - this allows you to search for stuff just like you would on a search engine. Then when you find what you want, you click to download the "nzb" file - which is basically just a file that knows exactly where to go on the news server to get the files. You can go and get them yourself manually but its a pain in the arse. What you will find is because its not P2P (you aint downloading parts of files off someone else) you will get full speed all the time - as you are downloading either from your isp (so on the local network) or a news host with a shit hot link to the net. that any clearer mate?
What sort of content are you DLing bri? I think i would run out of legal stuff to DL to make 10mbit worth it.
my ISP Wanadoo doesnt have all the newsgroups not the decent alt.binaries ones anyway.... That mean I'd have to sign up to USENET or summat to access them?
