So what if it's singling out one case, it doesn't make a difference if these two get treated worse than some other murderer. Afterall, they're murderers, they should be treated worthless to the society they live in. Maybe it will make the government change the law.

Vote for the Lib Dems, I read in the paper that they propose to make a life sentence LIFE behind bars and not the average of 11years which it is now.

I still dont understand how they can use the term 'sentenced to life' then serve them to a maximum of 15+ years

Yep, it's daft! They should get a sentence and then if they're good they get out on time, if they're bad in prison then it should be made longer.

People only ever serve half of a sentence. WTF!

psycoholic you're a fucking idiot. Have you actually bothered to read in detail about this case?

Both of Bulger's killers weren't old enough, both in the eyes of the law, and in the view of society in general, to understand the enormity or severity of what they'd done.

Neither of them was sentenced to life imprisonment, they were given 10 years during which time according to Lord Woolf upon his review of their conduct: "neither has shown any aggression or propensity for violence during his detention. They have worked hard in pursuing their education and, given their circumstances, have considerable achievements to their credit." (link here)

I don't condone murder, and I can't defend their actions, but I do believe that they didn't understand what they did and that they deserve a second chance. As for punishment, both show genuine remorse for their crimes and in all likelyhood it'll haunt them for the rest of their lives. In addition, they're not completely free; they're on release on what is called a "life licence", as far as I understand it they can be re-imprisoned immediately if they break the terms of their parole or are seen to be posing a threat to the general public.

The whole point of the justice system is that people atone for their crimes, and are then allowed free after their sentence or punishment is carried out. Maybe you should remember that in the eyes of the law, they've served their punishment, and if they were still a threat to society, they wouldn't have been released.

They shouldn't of been let out so soon whether they've been well behaved or not. When i was 10 years old I knew exactly what i was doing and I'm sure most people on here did, I certainly wouldn't of done that to a baby.

I've seen the sheer number of kids we get at work who get caught shoplifting and don't "know" it's wrong. Most of them are just teenagers who've been dared to pinch something and they don't see what could happen as a result of their actions.

Some kids of that age understand the concept of right and wrong extremely well because of their upbringing, because their parents take the time to teach them. I doubt these two did, you should look at their backgrounds:

    "
You can't tell me from the upbringing they had that they understood the concepts of right and wrong as well as we did as kids? Even if they did, the law itself does not class them as adults with good reason.

There's a difference between shoplifting and murder, i can see you only used it as an example but I used to shoplift when i was a kid.
