There is absolutely no way that I would ever confront a group of smokers. This ban is doomed, smokers ignite.

Surely a £2,500 fine is enough to warrant sufficient policing?

Aye someone told me they had been up to Scotland and people were complaining how some bars/clubs stunk of B.O. and sick and all sorts and that people hadn't realised that the smell of smoke actually masked a lot of other hideous smells.

Could be bollocks like but worth taking into consideration

Can't say I noticed that in Dublin like!

I can't see the point in the whole company property business, that's taking it too far. At the end of the day if they are outside the door then it's not really going to harm anyone but themself!

I went to Glasgow 3 weeks ago and was pretty traumatised.

    a) by the smell of sweat

    b) by the fact I went to light a tab with a candle because I was v drunk and then realised I couldnt

I left after about 45 mins cos of the smell of sweat it was disgusting!

I'll be in Ibiza when it comes in so it will be such a blow when I get back :(

I personally can't wait for the ban

I think its totally unfair how any none smoker that wants to go for a drink has no other choice but to inhale all the shite given off by smokers. I've been to pubs in Scotland that have the ban in place and the difference is class, I never noticed any pubs smelling of sweat, instead just good clean air

And waking up NOT smelling of smoke is also a bonus.

I hate smoking, and I'm counting the seconds down for the ban.

Having worked all over Scotland in the last year, I can say that the ban works. I never came across any incidents where people sparked up indoors, accidentally or otherwise, and I never noticed any distinct sweaty smells. Certainly an isolated incident, Katie, although it was Glasgow.

Most of all, considering they are considered the most volatile, bad tempered sods on the Earth, no-one had a problem.

    Roll on July 1st :)

I'm sure this is just an urban myth spread by smokers,

'Eeeeh, did you hear that when they banned smoking in Ireland all they could smell in bars was guff and piss?'

'Aye, apparently every pub had to refit the carpet cos the old one stank so much'

'And everywhere had to have a £40k refit to paint the nicotine off the walls'

Load of shit, all of it imo.

i'm gonna enjoy being able to nip for a few crafty pints on me lunch break and not come back into the office with the tell tale stink of pub tabs on me clothes... and it may help me stop being a pikey social smoker

Its been banned just bout everywhere here in Oz for a while now. There's even talk of banning it in cars in which kids are present. Probably a good thing. Now they just need to target the number of fat fuckers here

i can totally understand the ban. tbh i think tobacco should just be completely illegalised, and replaced by cannabis. that way i couldnt give a fook if i wasnt allowed to smoke in public, cos it makes me paranoid if im stoned and out in public.
It really is one of the shittest drugs out there. unless you smoke you dont feel any affect or benefit from it.
if you do smoke it makes no difference, your either fine or craving a tab.
    bring on the ban imo.

    absolute nonsense!

It's nowt to do with ruining a night, its just minging stinking of smoke.

On the smell note I've been out in Glasgow also and there was no BO smell....

Maybe it's YOU that smells and you just don't notice.

playing the "ban cars" card is also rather desperate.

Who said it had to be the first thing you thought? It's the first thing I think when I wake up in the morning. I'd rather not have the cancer thank you very much.

Can you imagine if heroin addicts actually had the capacity to physically damage anyone but themselves just by jacking up in front of them and were doing it in bars throughout the country. Some of the same people that have opposed the ban on this board would be the first to have OMG heroin is killing us all!!! outrage!!!!!11 attitudes and no doubt be banging on about it all the time, calling anyone who defended it some sort of "pc do gooder".

When I was at the Arches all I could smell was beer, because all the the complete tramps that were in there appeared to be throwing it all over eachother.

What a load of shite. What the fuck is so bad about NOT wanting to stink of smoke every time you go to a bar. Bandwagon my arse, the majority of none-smokers would prefer not to smell of smoke, thats one of the reasons I don't do it. When people come into work after having a tab you can smell it a mile off and its fucking rank!

i'd say most people DONT let smoking venues influence their nights out, but the nights when you do go out and its non smoking - and you wake up the next day and smell the same as if you'd popped to the shops for a white sliced loaf .......... then you think 'ahhhh, im up for this non smoking lark'
