Just saw The Hulk last night and I don’t know what the fuck u's are going on about. I thought it was totally class the way they combined comic strip and film (effects, multi screen ect).

The only thing i can think of is that people didn’t like the comic book approach to making the film, which affected the way the story rolled. But respect to them for keeping it as close to the original comic book stories.

I’m sure u's would be more happy with Spiderman which is much more Hollywood and a bag of shite too!!!;)

    Kids movies and escapism...

Let’s not forget that a vast majority of movies are targeted at the teen market. These are voyages of pure escapism; the viewer suspends his or her disbelief, allowing themselves to become enmeshed by the premise of the movie.

Granted, some movies suffer form poor direction, acting, plot or SFX, but the Hulk is a kid’s movie, as was Spiderman. The kids loved both of these movies and they were considered very successful. I loved Spiderman, as I grew up reading Marvel, 2000ad and similar horror and sci-fi publications.

If you judge the film with adult values, looking for holes, you will always find something to tear apart.

I thought Spiderman was outstanding! Along with X-Men was refreshing to see a superhero-type movie not afraid to take itself seriously.

I think you are naive if you think these movies are only directed at the teen market and even more naive if you think comics are (tho I am still a teen:D). The Hulk has a lot more depth and thought put into it compared to Spiderman, I to being a total geek have lots of comics from my younger years including X-Men, The Hulk and Spiderman special editions ect!!!:p

I am in no way naïve with regards to the depth and complexity of the said characters; it is just one particular aspect to my perspective of the context of the thread.

well if u don’t want to sound naive then its a good idea to tell every aspect of your perspective!!!

just a general suggestion not necessarily just in relation to this thread ;)

apologies though I didn’t want to come across as being harsh!!!

Oh, don’t worry, you didn't come across as harsh, I just don’t think you understood the context of my post. It was a direct association to the way superhero genre films are targeted at a younger audience. The younger children read the comic books; hence the parents will take them to the cinema. The Hollywood studios are more than aware of this fact. Notice how more and more films are being classified PG and 12A, this is to allow for a greater scope for profits.

That was the angle of the post. No naivety there Nik.

I’ve collected adult graphic novels and Japanese Manga/anime for over 20 years, so I’m quite aware of the depth and complexity that can be achieved in such publications and productions.

But this veers away from the original thread, which was my statement not to pull too harshly at the fabric of the movie; enjoy it for what it is, escapism.

    :) :) :)

well in that case its more likely to assume that the fact that people didn’t like it was because they just like TV series and didn’t appreciate the comic book aspect to the story line and direction. Nothing to do with their age necessarily.;)

It’s a big leap to make assumptions for such a large segment of the movie viewing audience. I have not had the time to see the movie yet, but I'm sure it will be very entertaining, irrespective of my age.

its only a more likely assumption then yours was to do with people judging the film with adult values, which becomes even more evident after hearing the fact that you haven’t seen it yet!!!

you will see what I mean when u see the film mate!!!;)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Kids movies and escapism...

I don’t need to have seen the movie to know how adult reasoning works. Most intelligent adults question, interrogate and probe at various aspects as they watch a movie, or read a book. They assimilate, digest and absorb the content for, in some cases, further debate, or just enjoyment and critique.

Age will always be a factor when considering audience reaction; children are more open, more willing to accept the fantasy and magic of cinema.

This is not an assumption, this is fact.

I'll let you know when I have seen the movie mate.
