what's good about the board is meeting people who are NOT your mates on Facebook. I knew nobody when i first came on here but was lured into posting by Joe's rants. I've since met lotsa good people I would never have done without it. But everyone here is growing older and so anyone younger will find no one like them to talk to. I haven't got the faintest clue what to do about it tho. Maybe all message boards are doomed. I'd miss it though

Can we also get rid of the notices bit at the top of the page and have the googole adds at the bottom of the page?

I have to come up with some first ;)

I'll take down some of the notices - tbh I think a fair few of them are redundant anyways. I'll look into changing the google layouts as well.

we would happily advertise the url on our event flyers and posters
    - but have to agree that a lot of people avoid posting due to certain members relentless piss taking and 'genre snobery'

I'd agree that there's a fair bit of pisstaking and banter on here, but thats always been the case. To be fair it's not as bad as it used to be, or anywhere near as bad as gurn.net (it got so bad on there that the site owners eventually pulled the plug).

At the end of the day we've all been on the receiving end of some jip on here, the thing you've got to take away from it is that it's only a message board and people are only doing it for the reaction. If you're taking it personally, then you're taking it far too seriously :)

Is there anything the mods can do about this? Probably not, and to be honest I don't want to be jumping down someone's throat every time they're on the windup. We do take a dim view of people griefing newbies though, and from what I've seen recently they don't get that much stick nowadays when they sign up...

The less people there are, the more cliquey and incestous it gets, which probably adds to the problem of people feeling there is alot of genre snobbery - which is quite funny since the mods on here have a wide taste, so its a vocal minority.

Once again tho, if those people were diluted by an influx of new people (thousands of people come to the universities every year for one) then that would make things better.

I'll still stick to the fact that its not about rearranging what we already have - it aint gonna suddenly make people post again, its about getting new people through the door.

I agree with that, use people who post etc and pick a small venue and grow though word of mouth.

Unless that suddenly pulls 500-1000 people per week/month, and assuming 5-10% of those people end up coming on the board, then i doubt that is suddenly going to make a difference in terms of numbers.

I agree tho - its a great idea.

don't see why we couldn't include nucastle logo on our print promo going forward to help out. it would be a shame for the board to close as think its a good local hub.

maybe other local clubs/promoters could help too?

Whilst i agree with Brid about the board needing new members i think a bit of rearranging could be done.

People look at the different sections and it's seen as being dead because there's only one or two new posts it might increase a bit more posting if you look in a section and there are 9-10 new topice or topics that have had replys.

More sections were made as the forums used to be busy and it was easier to find what you were after if you had certain sections.

These days do we really need any others than "General Chat" "What's On" "Music" "Sport"

condensing them and forcing other topics to go in one of them, mainly general chat may make it look busier than it is and increase peoples participation or people to sign up.

It's all about getting people to sign up and post but if they see about 2 posts a week in the general chat forum then they won't bother.

    - Will send you over a pm with something you might be interested in Conway.

    - also we stuck the nucastle url on our flyers in the past and will do in the future. (we'd also be happy to hand out badges/stickers or any promo stuff that gets printed with our stuff in the future)

It’s nice to see other people willing to stick the Nucastle logo/url on their flyers :)

I dunno about anyone else, but whenever I’m at an event I’ll always take home the flyer  to look back at them one day.

When I first started going out I’d bring back tons of shit in my pockets, so yeh I think the logo/url on flyers would do more than we might think. On flyers though I think it has to stand out pretty well or it might aswell be in brail.

Still i think just for the new members sakes when they do visit us to sign up, they shouldn't be greeted with Films Tv & sport  if they wanted that they'd pickup a copy of the sun.

Bringing everything under the banter heading bar marketplace possibly into general discussion seems a no brainer to make the place look more active.

.... to the same old bunch of people though.

Will it make the board busier on its own? I dont think so.

Its gotta be alongside a two pronged approach. Get more people in AS WELL as re-arranging the forums (perhaps)

Brid it might not make it busier in total but new people and lurkers will notice that the main forum is busier or at least looks busier which might make them sign up. Something needs to be done but i think bunching things together is the first step as nobody is going to sign up when the general discussion forum has 3 new posts a week.

It might not make the place more active, but looking more active will go a part of the way....
