I havent watched that much of it but it seems Australia are a class apart from us.Australia are sunderland and England are newcastle ;-P we were well lucky to get a draw
not sure how i feel about this. obviously it's a massive shame as you're losing a great player, but he's been shit with a bat for ages, last time i saw him bat well was in india last year. you're losing his bowling ability but harmison's a similar player, and if he keeps his form, could be almost a like-for-like swap. all time great player though, and i'm glad he's sticking around for one dayers and 20/20
this is the team i would field for the 2nd test given the fact freddie is fucked: Strauss Cook (last chance saloon) Bopara Pietersen Collingwood Prior Swann Broad Harmison Anderson Onions
Australlia are having a mare. Johnson's going all over the park Hauritz with a fucked finger. Mis fields, dropped catches jesus christ! Great start for England though at 187/0 Strauss and Cook are going along really well it sounds.
if only things had stayed like this strauss and cook did well to get such a good opening partnership. strauss needed a captain's innings and cook needed some runs, boh did very well opening. after that though, what on earth happened? ravi bopara needs to stop sticking that leg in front of the wicket, and pietersen needs to take a long, hard look at himself. from an excellent opening, we've made this test extremely difficult to win. i'd go as far as to say that we could have lost the ashes with this one innings... onions needs to have a good match with the ball, but i'd definitely have stuck harmison in for broad.
We just can't seem to take our starts and push on. Frist test our batsmen got a start and then threw it away and this time we've had a great start to the innings. from being 197 for no loss to our current score is a joke. Fair enough we have scored an extra 200 near enough but for 10 wickets 200 runs is shocking. We had the chance to put a big score of about 550 on the board and put them under alot of pressure. The good thing was that Hilfenhaus found swing even though its a flat deck the swing caused problems so hopefully Jimmy can take advantage of that.
Wowzers, They were only 2 down when i left work at 5 just turned it on as Broad took the 8th wicket. What a fantastic position. Just hopw we don't screw it up and let them avoid the follow on.
immense bowling from us today. i was gutted when we started dropping like flies this morning - but Anderson and Onion's last wicket stand for 47 was class. what a game Anderson is having like, very good with the bat and he has bowled brilliantly, the swing he is getting is unreal he's totally showing mitchel johnson up. i think we will deffo scuttle them out before they get the 74 they need tommoro, i hope Siddle and Hauritz get the shit smashed out of their ribs with short balls, Hauritz cos he is already injured and Siddle cos he did it to Swann, and hes a proper cunt
thank christ for that. i have a couple of cricketing superstitions, which i adhered to today, that i'd like to think contributed to our brilliant bowling attack today. i thought we made life hard for ourselves in our first innings after the opening partnership. jimmy and graham onions did great at 10 and 11, but i never expected to see what i did with the ball. anderson has made it swing beautifully and onions seems to have taken advantage of that too. even broad got two wickets, although i'd say flintoff's was the pick of the bunch. still think he should come around the wicket more to left-handers though. typical of the australians to call bad light early when we only had two wickets left to take, but that was inevitable given jimmy's show with his gloves in the last test. dan - do you know graham onions? he lives up on dryden road, only found that out the other week!
really? na mate i didn't know that. if he lives there he is obviously a product of gateshead fell then happy days
aye, i know a fair few people that know him! he went to st. peter's with one of my best mates i considered playing for gateshead fell this summer, then decided i'm probably too shit to make even the 4th team
i know a lad who is in the 3rds and he said i should go along to his training so i dont think the standard is too great like, meant to be mint crack as well
could be worth a look in like, i know a lad used to play for them but he played for loughborough uni 1sts and the scc, so i thought it was a canny standard. took two wickets in beach cricket in my first bowling attempt on my recent trip to newquay, so reckon i could be giving jimmy anderson a run for his money in a few years
