surely techno fans/promoters know eachother in a small city like newcastle, so how long does it take before people start stepping on their mates toes when doing nights ?

they already step on each others toes - thats why they are all off doing their own thing with no cooperation between each other

do any of them care that they are running the same night - in a word mostly NO.

I have / had verbal agreements with 2 other promoters - one of whom aint running stuff anymore that we wouldnt ever run on the same night as it carves up the club scene -

at the minute tho - nights are like buses - theres some weeks where nowt takes the fancy then other weeks when there are 3 things the same night to go to -

so then you get instead of one GREAT night , 1 fairly good night and 2 distinctly average ones and nights pulling no more than 100-150 punters

end of the day the venues dont care about this - as long as the owners see beer profits rolling in.

To be honest they is a fair few things on going on covering other forms of music so in a month there is normaly something interesting on. These nights work with each other as well so don't try to do things on the same night.

It just seems that in the last few monthes there have been about 6 new nights doing only with a slight variation on the same House/minimal techno thing more often than not with 2 on the same night.

As melt said it just leads to loads of half full nights with a lack of atmosphere.

I surpose house/minmal is really popular up here but other citys so seem to have a bigger varity in styles and also more interesting venues.
