    Yeah I agree.. there seemed to be some huge regional 'thing' about how we deserved to win the city of culture thing ..... But so far have only managed to nuture either big market esque boozers or weekend millionaire high brow, low intellect try hard bars.

    We have a long way to go before we can match places like Barcelona, Prague, New York even 1% towards being 'cultured'.

    ..... The north east drinking culture has improved in recent times since the town has admittedly went more 'upmarket' compared to 7-8 years ago when dobsons/kiss was the sum total of where you could go on a night out, but its still encouraging the whole townie/student split likewise.

    And Mark said Smile (ON A MONDAY) did well over the Summer when the students went home.

    Thursday on the boat drink all you can is popular with both students & locals

    when/where is nice on?

    Shindig is 1 place for all of newcastle - on a weekend - so it's full of locals cause it's the only place to go - so they can charge what they want for entry and drinks prices.

    THATS why bigg market and quayside bars eveywhere have happy hours early on, to fight for the punters, to get them b4 they're too wrecked to make conscious desicions where to go... thats what i was on about. you've twisted my words. :tut:
