There is a bar literally 50 feet from the LSE campus that has a big sign in the window and another on the door saying " no students " - it is enforced too. What kind of stupid commercial move is that?

I don't think the student/townie divide is bad in the city centre at all. Students are much loved esp. THE BIRDS.

Locals from Heaton and Bensham have a big dislike of Students though. Heaton esp. but that's down to the effect they have had on the area rather than a predigest.

Ive never really had a problem at all when i was a student. Though it might be because i am a local. I went to town on Fridays and Saturdays before i was a student, and then while i was a student. No problems. Though i always knew where to stay away from (ie the Bigg Market). I didnt mind going there on student nights at all though.

I think i did notice that a lot of people on my course never went to town on Friday or Saturday. But i think it was just all the non-local students who were like that really. I dunno, but it might have something to do with their accents. Thick charvas (is there any other kind?) sometimes hear any non-local accent and think of it as a reason to start something.

All students, everywhere, tend to go out on weeknights anyway, dont they? Thats when student nights are on etc. I know I did when I was down in Preston.

I wanna be a student again!

In sheffield I tend to go out during the week cos you can have two decent nights for the price of one weekend night. Also quite a few of my mates go home on a weekend so theres not as many around.

Also in sheffield there isnt that many good places to go on on a weekend, especially saturday nights. Also if you go during the week yuo tend to bump into a lot of your coursemates.

Saying that I've got no problems going out on weekends in sheffield as long as you go to the right places. Like I would never go to Kingdom on a weekend cos its the Ikon of sheffield, but its ok during the week

its just too damn expensive to go out at the weekend!!

yu may go into a bar on a monday and pay $1 a drink, then for the same drink in the same bar on a weekend the price may be double!!

    it's crazy

It's more crazy that you've been nipping to the bureau de change before your Monday out, and then the bars have been accepting your cash... :spangled: ;)

    to summarise :

Local and student = go anywhere, almost
local and not a student = go anywhere
not local and student = Only thru the week to town bars/pubs
not local and not student = Sometimes will go anywhere, cash permitting

Non-local students don't seem to venture elsewhere at the weekend leaving it open for the locals - locals (the majority) seem to prefer cheap booze and kebabs over decent late night venues for entertainment i reckon...

Back in my booze hound days i would go anywhere that was open and served alcohol.... music, crowd, atmosphere all took a back seat.

i think thats the north east attitude, not for everyone, but most, in my opinion

IF venues/bar/clubs had greater flexibility in their opening hours, licensing laws, ideas - maybe people would see there is a DIFFERENT way for enjoying yourself without having to binge drink in happy hours at 7pm

once again, one of the many reasons we didn't get the city of culture bid... it's the 21st century!

    :chill:
