I didnt bother with halls im my first year as i moved down with a couple of mates. One of my mates moved into halls and hated it.
Loads of people hate them cos you end up with people who are generrally scruffs and cant even cook noodles for themselves. Rooms are tiny, furniture is shit, if you high up its rubbish to get to when your wrecked.
Saying that if your moving by yourself, it might be better for you for one year. Id rather move in a 1 bedroom house by myself and just make sure your social at uni!
Halls are usually far more expensive and if you have a problem with money your less likely to have a bit off lee way from the owners.

Thats sound info, cheers Zoe. Like you said at the end you didn't have a clue at the start that is like me now. Never really gave it more than a quick thought as I automatically thought I'd have to start at college then try & get into uni after a few years.

Definately gonna have a look into it now, cheers again. :)

Just look into man. Im sure you can get grants/loans if you start uni before you 25. It worth doing. If you fuck up just make sure you dont earn more than 15k a yer and you dont pay anything back!

i thought id atleast have to do a levels, but once you reach 21 (i think) you are classed as a mature student so they look at your work expeience aswell. They didnt even take my GCSE's into consideration. Bearing in mind it is Quantity Surveying I am doing, all my work experience has been customer service based, all the uni asked was to find relevant employment to the course. Luckily I got the job with who I am with and they pay my fees, but like I said before, theres plenty help towards your fees if you cant get a sponsor.

if you know which course you want to do, go on the uni website that does that course and there is usually entry requirements on the page, northumbria website has an online application form too. Nothing stopping you applying, getting a decision then once you officially enrol get intouch with student services at the uni and at the local council to find out what exactly you are entitled too.

Either Cumbria, Liverpool, Marjon (Plymouth) or Bangor. More than likely not Bangor as they want a minimum of 280 ucas points and i only have about 250. I may be able to blag it due to work experience and a course I did for 12 weeks recently, but it's got a lot of stuff that I don't really want to bother with and it looks like it's gonna be primarily theory based.

Oh, and i'm 23 in 4 days. I think I read somewhere that over 50% of students applying for their first year of uni are over 21.

I feel way more prepared for uni now than i would have 4 years ago. I've grown out of the getting wrecked every week and blowing all my money on clubbing stages. I've realised now that I need to get my life sorted and i don't think many people can truly do that when they've just hit the legal age for drinking.

I'm applying online at the moment, but it's asking me on ucas if I'm applying through a college or as an individual. Since I finished my college course last year and haven't been there since, will I now be applying as an individual?

Edit: After reading that, it sounds like a stupid question. i've chosen individual.

what are you going to study? in my (biased) opinion, go to the best uni you can get into, and try to stick to red-bricks. liverpool would be a good shout, i applied there.
most red-brick/old universities want a minimum of 300-320 ucas points, but if you apply through clearing there's a good chance you'll get in anyway. i know people at my uni with less than 300.

re: the kind of people you get in halls - that all depends on the kind of uni you go to. i met some wicked people in my halls, no scruffs, although quite a few rahs (more tolerable). some great people though, who i still live with now.

dan - the leeds vs. leeds met banter is great crack, you'll see that down here. it usually peaks at the varsity rugby match every october, when leeds met generally spank us. i'm coming back down for it in october :king:

I'm doing Outdoor Activities Instruction/Adventure.. some mix in with Sports Science.

Most of them only require about 180 ucas points minumum, apart from Bangor, which wants a min of 260 and I only have 250.. plus some experience with some outdoor activities.
