Stubborn for enjoying a debate or having a point of view?

Do you prefer going along with a group concensus to feel validated? No need to try and rain on others who might dare NOT to.

I bet you a million quid you've either been in a speeding car, or sped at one point - and i bet you didnt wring your hands then eh? Or is it OK to speed if you dont get caught? Wheres your morals then?

Im against speed cameras' and im against the idea that any government can arbitrarily set a finite limit on a speed that its RIGHT (yeah im being ironical) to kill someone at or WRONG to kill someone at depending on if your below or above the speed limit.

Speed humps achieve the same result and dont end up with this country looking like the Police state its become right now.

    Fuck speed cameras.

Speeding is acceptable when the time is right. Any good driver (and there are plenty of shit drivers) knows when it is safe to put their foot down and when its not...imo.

Not for any further than 10 meters they dont.

Anyways, this whole thread isnt even ABOUT whether or not getting flashed by a speed camera is your own fault or not. The point i was making before i got gangbanged by you studs was whether or not they are actually fit for the purpose they were designed for. Your answer is obviously YES... and mine is NO.

Its a great world where everyone has unique opinions eh. Perhaps democracy and personal liberties are still relevant in this day and age.

brid they couldn't put speed bumps everywhere cos they have quite a few in boro but loads of people have been trying to sue the council cos speed bumps (in excess) can fuck up your suspension (even when going the speed limit for the road they are on).

nothing can be the correct system 100% of the time but i'd rather have a few shitly placed speed cameras (yeah maybe put there to make a few ££) than none at all...

surely you can't be arguing that ALL speed cameras are wrong and do not reduce accidents/injuries?

cos that would just be stupid.

I think in this day and age we need to be VERY careful about anything that puts up even MORE cameras that watch and monitor us - we're already the most watched nation on EARTH with the sheer numbers of cctv cameras .... i hate the idea that i cant move around in my own country without someone having a record of it.

Also - any driver who experiences speed cameras will know exactly what its like to drive around them, or notice what other drivers do around them. They SPEED, SPEED, SPEED, (NOTICE CAMERA) SLOW DOWN, (PASS CAMERA), SPEED, SPEED, SPEED....

Does slowing a car down for 10 seconds while you get past the camera stripes on the road make the country a safer place?

So.... i'd rather examine all other ways of slowing and controling traffic in a non invasive manner before i'd want to put up yet MORE cameras.

i LOVE how everyone is on their high horse in this thread - like NO-ONE EVER speeds - u bunch of jokers. EVERYONE speeds - (resist from putting FACT at the end) you all do it, be it on purpose or by accident - you all do it.

SO the REASON i paid more insurance and a fine was because of fucking charvers?!?!? like i need MORE reasons to hate the cocksmiths. i'm purposely going to drive faster thru byker, try take a few out. we'll discuss this saturday Chris ;)

I speed every time I drive, I just can't stand people who complain when they get caught.

Me too- I very rarely stick to any speed limit, which is mainly owing to my impatient nature

But if I get caught, it's my own tough shit

Who's complaining about being caught? Not me.

Its more about the constant invasion of privacy that irks me - or do you hate people who complain about that aswell?

it's the sneakiness of the rozzas that gets me

PLUS everyone in here, other than brid, are acting all high and mighty, gabbering on how "oo someone could die if u do 5 miles over the limit" yet they do it all the time - hypocrits!

shouldn't u be riding a bike living in london? don't even get me started on cyclists on paying road tax.....

i do, i'm all for being watch all the time, if you've got nothing to hide you will be fine.

But it also means if everyones watched all the time then people would find it hard to commit crimes without be caught.

    HOLY SHIT.

And to think millions of people died in WWII fighting against people who thought they could impose that kind of thinking on everyone.

Winston Churchill would turn in his grave if he could hear you saying that.

Its a shame our generation has been brought up to believe in a world that George Orwell tried to warn against in his books.

Like anyone would be happy having their privacy invaded that much

I've just finished reading a book about life under Stasi rule in East Germany- if you knew what they had to contend with, the last thing you would want is to be watched 24/7

I suppose being watched by Big Brother is all very well if we are in complete agreement with the laws and restrictions which are being put in place by the government. Yes we do vote for which government we want in power but that doesn't mean we necessarily agree with every policy they make.

I think its a problem that we in the UK (me included) have had for a very long time now....

... we let things happen and rather do anything about them if we dont agree with them, we just grumble about it at home instead, or down the pub.

Logically - yes if you are doing nothing wrong (In the goverments eyes) at the time then theoretically you have nothing to worry about ... but where does that end? Should you let police in your house without a warrant if you aren doing anything wrong? Should the police be allowed to stop and search you if they dont like the look of you?

Should people making democratic protests be arrested under 'anti terror' laws?

...... yeah its a discussion about speed cameras - but its worring just how much things have changed in 10 short years.
