no, I was asking because im doing a presentation on dumbing down and because of pikes mention of dumb masses in a previous post. I need some ideas on the type of things i can mention, such as The Canterbury Tales on bbc which were set in moden times, and told in todays English which is one example of dumbing down and making quite intellectual texts/scripts/etc accessible by the masses.

So, in short I was not trying to look clever I was merely trying to ascertain peoples views on the subject, and if you had not tried to make a mockery of my question I may be further on in doing so. And I have had to spend 2 mins out of my life explaining it to your clearly inferior mind.

pike means that the show is a big act and all the people are actors, and they are trying to con the audience into thinking its real.

do you not think that this kind of 'reality TV' show is more popular due to the whole of the media being dumbed down in general though? As in instead of this why not have some informative programme about history/art/high culture items? Because this is more profitable as it is more popular, Why is it more popular i hear you cry? Because people all over the country believe this entertainment is desirable, because that is what is drummed into us from birth, in this consumerist society we live in. We are but mindless slaves to the media when we suck shows such as this in. I am guilty of it myself I confess, although when put in front of you like that it seems gaudy and tacky. Most of us are part of this mass.

Maybe, but i think the reason reality tv is so popular is because of the unpredictability of the concept, the anything can happen subjectivness that it brings to the viewer.

I got bored of it after the first two episodes... shit tv.

I knew it. Seen this last night and I'm positive it's definately him.

There's 4 actors names in the credits.. but they whizz past really fast so are very difficult to read.

There's loads of actors involved though, playing the lecturers etc as well as the contestants.

It's the launch tonight folks, don't miss it!

They say it takes off like an aircraft, so they taxi to runway 9, and take off, without being able to see out the window as the shutters are down

I've found most of the programme like this to be fair. But last nights "launch" actually got me off me seat to finish off the dinner that my girlfriend had started making. And that's saying something

This prgramme is total bot, its a fucking smegma induced wart.

It all a con, they are all actors and its the public that are getting coned.

Even if its not that, its not worth watching in the first place, gotta be the biggest waste of money thats ever been.
