lol, no they used to protect them and signal to the owners if something was wrong.

a few people who dont know a lot about dogs have met my dog and loved her to bits and went "eee what breed is she?" and as soon as i say a staffy they cant believe it. 1 lass got bit when she was little and she totally loves my dog.

Some dogs are bred by their owners to be vicous. You cant really blame the dog, if you treat a pitbull like a little baby from day one chances are its not going to savage peoples faces off. Its like badly behaved kids, most of the time its the parents fault or just due to a bad upbringing in some way.

case in point - staffys by nature are very amiable to humans but satanic to other animals.. our staffy went through our green house and out the otherside in pursuit of a pigeon when I was a kid..

pit bulls on the other hand are notoriously vile dogs by nature and will tear anything apart, be it animal or human, so it's quite understandable really..

If you put aside the great deal of evidence that certain dogs are more likely to attack humans due to them being bred to be violent you are still left with the undeniable fact that these dogs are also physically far more capable of seriously injuring humans.

What I can't understand is why anyone would choose to own such a dog because you know that IF it ever does snap there is a good chance that it will fuck someone up badly.

I think dogs should be legally considered as weapons, if your dog kills someone you should be sent down for manslaughter.

To make that work all dogs will need to be licensed which I am also all for (at the dog owners expense).

Let's see how many people are bothered enough about having a Doberman to pay for a licence and risk jail.

With dogs certain things can make them go crazy...my dog is actually like a baby and although she is a border collie which are hardly hardcore if you do certain stuff like blow in her face she goes absolutely crazed. Some dogs have things which just set them off because they get scared or feel threatened.

I used to look after one when I was younger.

To be precise it was an American Red Nose Pit Bull very similar to this one.

It seemed to be a nice dog but it would tear you to bits if it wanted to, total liability to you and everyone around you.

i agree that dog owners should have licences like the good old days, that way irresposible people wont be allowed to own them.

But with regard to the breed how far do you take it? Cos i bet at least one of nearly every single breed has badly attacked before....

ALL owners shoudl have a licence, anyone who wants to own a dog wont mind paying for a licence either!

I dont like kids, so no danger of that happening....my dogs are my kids and i treat them like it too. thats why they are always so nice....just like me :)

This is why it upsets me when people say things about certain dogs, if someone ruled that all staffy's were to be put to sleep because a new law said that i would be beside myself as my staffy would never harm anyone and she was being put to death for no apparent reason.

    That's spot on

I would be in favour of licensing of dogs and all owners being responsible for the dogs actions. I wouldn't be against tax like in Holland for ownership either.

I hate to see dogs wandering the street, wether they are owned or strays. I wouldn't dare let my dog out alone for fear of what could happen to him or for what he could possibly do

I'm not talking about how likely they are to attack, I'm talking about how much damage they are physically capable of doing if they attack.

Why put people in harms way?

fuck me it beat a lion:eek:

    [edit] 1825
In 1825, two more lion fights took place, staged by a promoter named George Wombwell, who travelled around England with his collection of caged wild animals. The venue for the encounters was an extensive enclosure called the Old Factory Yard, in the suburbs of Warwick, on the road towards Northampton. The cage where the fight was to take place stood in the center of a hollow square, formed on two sides by a range of empty workshops, the windows of which were fitted up with planks on barrels as seats for the spectators. The price of admission was three guineas for seats at the windows, first, second and third floors of the unoccupied factory; two guineas for seats on the fourth floor; one guineas for a still more distant point; and a half-guinea for standing room in the square. At this time the most famous Lion bait was about to start. A staffordshire bull terrier around 19 inches tall named Sammy against one of the most ferocious lions that was known to kill dogs in seconds. The fight lasted 20 minutes, the lion was striking Sammy but Sammy would never give up and grabbed the Lion by the face never let go until the Lion severely injured him. Sammy grabbed him again and the Lion was too injured to fight back, the fight was separated and Sammy won the fight. Sammy was treated at the finest medial centre in Warick. The most amazing part was that Sammy was as soft as a lamb with children, so he was the definition of a staffordshire bull terrier and was rewarded a medal for his optimal staffordshire bull terrier personality.

The cage measured fifteen feet square, ten feet high, with an elevated floor six feet from the ground. The old iron bars were wide enough apart for a dog to enter or escape.
