I've had that before, and the more you think about your breathing the more iregular it gets.
I think it's because breathing is an automatic thing, if you focus your mind on it to much you can convince yourself you can't breath properly.

If it gets really bad it turns into a panick attack.
I've had it before where I lost all feeling in my arms and hands and got a pain in my chest and then passed out.
I panicked more as I convinced myself I was having a heart attack.

In a panic attack you panic because you convince yourself you can't breathe.

I used to get them as a kid, I got really bad asthma and went into a panic attack as I was unable to breathe.
It's all only mental, but really scary.

That doesn't mean it wasn't one. They could come out of nowhere. The signs are there - Racey heart, unable to breath properly and it became worse when you tried to calm down....

A good mate had one at an after party. He had ate a lot of pills and suddenly couldn't breathe properly, his heart began to race which caused slight chest pains. He's a fit and healty lad, but he thought he was gonna have a heart attack and die. We managed to calm him down though. Was scary though seeing it happen!

The scary thing is that panic attack symptons are similar to those of a hearth attack.
My stepmom had a few panic attacks, then one day she had a heart attack.
I tried calming her down and getting her to breath thinking she was having a panic attack, by the time we came to the hospital it was to late.
Later it turned out that the previous few panic attacks might have been minor heart attacks, but the doctor never diagnosed that.

I haven't got that many health problems!
A few mental problems, and thats probably from too much partying.
