Its the response that the PRC, Hamas and Hezbollah wanted though, for months Hezbollah have been stock piling rockets on the Lebanese border while the Gilad Shalit raid was the result of two months of planning.

Israel responded in a bellicose manner... but it was the reaction the terrorists hoped to provoke.

Palestinian militants captured an Israeli (but killed his mates) and demanded the release of 1000 prisoners/terrorists from Israeli jails.... Israel responded by launching an aggressive offensive against the Palestinians.

Then a couple of days ago 2 more soldiers were captured (and their mates killed) by Hezbollah terrorists who entered Israel from Lebanon... Israel responded by declaring war and Lebanon and again hitting the Lebanese hard.

Its had over 100 complaints from the UN (while nations like Sudan and China have under 10)... The international community is deeply antisemitic.

Israel are pretty kick-ass

Israel has some fairly major support in the US (but then so does Palestine). I think what is going on at the moment will dampen any sympathy anyone has though.

For me it has nothing to do with religion, and everything to do with Israel's heavy handed reaction to things. It would be like the UK bombing parts of Ireland due to the actions of the IRA.

The conflict in Israel is much more visible, various nations have various connections to it, it has the possibility of going international, countries have historic ties to it, countries have different investments involved etc. I could probably go on.

The opposite is more or less true for Sudan, China and most other attrocities you'd care to name.

Israel fired into Lebanon first! OK, it was after the soldiers had been kidnapped, but it was still a ridiculously heavy handed response. The UK didn't bomb Ireland after barracks in the UK were attacked.
