    Exactly.

If you're not living in your overdraft and never have done, how will this affect you in any way?

It would be really easy for the banks to decline any transaction that would cause an account to go overdrawn. But if they did that, they'd never make all that profit on bank charges...

Because you are now having to pay £12.50 a month to have an account... or pay £1 a day for an authorised overdraft facility!!

I know I am not usual in my overdraft, but I do go in it every now and again... but if I ahve to pay £1 a day for every day I am in it I'd be screwed!!

    Totally agree

I have the reward account so i get paid £5 a month if i pay in more than £1000 a month.

I was going to get the ultimate reward but decided not to as I was paying £12.50 a month for nowt.

I only have a £100 overdraft but that will be getting removed when I get paid as I always end up in it last few days of the month.

You won't have to pay this, seeing as you work for a bank.

I don't have to pay for my broadband...

Your basically the same as me then. Except i pay the £12.50 a month. I will probs drop my account down like as i only did it for phone insurance, price protection and purchase protection but i've used neither in the 6 months since i upgraded.

The main sticker was the phone insurance for theft/loss & accidental damage as i've lost more phones than i care to remember.

I'm rarely in my overdraft and if i am its only for a few days. I'll go down to the account where i get £5 paid in and will be saving myself £12.50 a month meaning i could be overdrawn for 17 days and not be any worse off than i am now seeing as i don't use any of the benefits on the Ultimate Reward Account.

There's no point changing banks now until you see what other banks do. No point going to Barclays for them to introduce stupid fee's

Yeah true... but if u are paying more than £1000 into the Ultimate Reward Account you should also be reciving the £5 a month??

Also what I have been told to do as I currently have two accounts that will have to change in December and only one will be the ultimate, is with the normal reward account transfer £1000 into it, even if its only for 10mins or so and you will recive £5 on that account also :)

I need the security of an overdraft and couldn't afford to pay £1 a day :(

Unfortunatly it looks like all the banks are going to be doing this next year!

No you don't get £5 a month on the Ultimate Reward account. Only The Halifax Reward Account.

I have a an Easycash account, Web Saver Account and Ultimate reward with them, The easycash you pay nothing and i only use to save money on things where you need to pay a fee for paying with Visa Debit such as train tickets online as that account has a Visa Electron card which you don't get charged for purchases on so i just transfer the money in quickly when i need to use it.

The Ultimate reward is the £12.50 a month account and you don't get £5 You just get loads of other benefits covering loads of different insurances etc for the £12.50.

As i never use them and haven't had to claim i'll ask to have my Ultimate Reward account converted to the Reward Account.

I ballsed some direct debits up a few year ago and had to get a £300 o/d sorted, since then when i've been payed i've just counted my pay as being with the -£300 im allowed so now have to pay off the £300 before 6th Dec. Bit of a twat like since I had some savings sorted and now have to use some to pay that off.

I think I will just reduce mine once paid off to £100 and keep a little bit in me other halifax account and if I do go over pay it off the next day.

right b4 crimbo n arl tha bastards.

Basically all Halifax current accounts as we know them are changing... we now have two options

    1) Ultimate Reward Account - They charge you £12.50 per month for this account, but you get £5 back if you pay in over £1000 a month, a free £300 overdraft facility and loads of other crap benefits like RAC cover etc

    2) Reward Account - No monthly fee and no crap benefits, but as with the other one £5 back if you pay in over £1000 a month... this one DOES NOT have a free overdraft facility and they charge you £1 a day, for every day you are in you overdraft

Seemingly this is the way that all banks are going after having to scrap the bank charges and they say that these accounts have recived nothing but praise (hmmmmmm).

Ah thanks for that, I didnt read all of the leaflet and just thought I would have to pay the overdraft off. fOR £12.50 I think I will prob take that account out end of Nov. I dont wanna really be sticking a chunk of my savings into paying it off. Suppose they've got you over a barrell, pay a £1/£5 a day or sign up and give us £12.
