you sort of plug your ipod into your trainers via a little gizmo that you put into the insole of the trainer, which picks up data of the run.

and on the ipod while your running you press the middle button to play your 'power song' for that little bit more inspiration

i think anderzz of here has them but went for a run only once :D

For the majority of people I'd guess they'd be absolutely rubbish but they're exactly the style of trainers I use, quite flat and very light because my heels never touch the ground.

I changed my running style after a few injuries stopped me running competitively, now I run Pose technique and have ran 2 marathons, 2 half marathons and a few fun runs for charity and suffered no running related injuries in all that time.

 It's not far off, it's the technique Michael Johnson used and Haile Gebrselassie uses, they lean forward land on their mid foot.

If you want proper cheapos to run in...

    Hi tec silver shadows.

If not. Asics and New Balance do canny running shoes, but if you wanna take it seriously you wanna go to a proper shop and get your running analysed. they will tell fit you into proper fitted shoes.

I have a pair of climacools that I've had for about 3 years, they're light and comfortable. I only run on a treadmill but they've been class trainers.

indoor court shoes. no cusioning, no shape.

people forget addidas's back ground. they do some good proper running footware if you get it fotted correctly. light, well cusioned - just not long lasting/hard wearing

asics and new balance are good too - but it all depends on your style of running. Main issues are pronation or supination - how the foot rolls, and where the weight is tranfered.

got to a proper sports shop where the staff are properly trainer to give advice

Well these trainers won't be used for any serious amounts of running, but over the next 7 weeks or so I'll be doing different sports, like football, running, fencing, climbing, break dancing, badminton, basketball and a few others I forget. I just want something that is designed for running/sports as an all rounder to avoid getting blisters like I got on Friday  I'll be joining the gym after this and using the trainers for that, as well as some outdoor running but nothing special.

Thinking of doing the great north run next year though so come then, I'll be looking into getting some really good trainers.

As an alternative (as well as the running trainers), are Adidas Samba any good for stuff like indoor football?

Oh, and how do they find out what type of trainer your feet need?

Yeah anything that requires a certain type of kit is is provided for ;) But, if I go to Go Ape for example, I'm assuming I'd need my own footwear :p

They use video gait analysis, basically you run on a treadmill for a short time and they record it. Then they analyse the video and use the pressure readings to see where your weight is being distributed as you run. You can get it done for free at a SweatShop if there is one near you.

How much does it generally cost otherwise? I'll be in Newcastle centre tomorrow afternoon. I'd feel cheeky getting it done for free if I wasn't also buying trainers.. I'm obviously gonna buy them from the shop that has the best offer :groovy:

I also fear that my running style will be different from usual seeing as I have blisters on both feet  I need decent trainers ASAP though as I'm doing more sports on Thursday at the latest :( Thinking about getting some Adidas Sambas to tide me over until I know which running trainers to get.

aye that place has allsorts, staff seem to know what they're talking about too and decent prices

there's another specialist running shop along from the gate next to that native skatestore too

but from what you've said since your intial post Mr B i'd recomend maybe a decent cross trainer that provides support for a range of activities (I used to sell trainers in first sport as a saturday job for a couple of years when I was a teenager) nike always did a few good ones at a range of prices, they tend to look a bit rubbish though as they're quite chunky but for practicality if you're gonna be doing a range of activities they're the best providing good all round support:cool2:

there are loads of different types. if you want the best pair then you have to take into consideration the type of running your doing, arch height of your foot, motion mechanics etc

search on google for running shoes, most websites will allow you to enter details on the type of shoe you require and then give you a selection of the ones that meet your needs

they're not the worst - but the mid-sole is diecut foam so after awhile it compresses and can give an uneven sole
