The most blantent bit was when Roma had a free kick near the end of the first half. In the box Pogotetz walked into De Rossi, he then slapped Pogo in the face and fell on the floor, looking to see if the ref had seen him! Dirty cheating Italians.

So glad we knocked them out

I'm actually quite pleased to see Boro doing well in Europe.. Watched the match last night and enjoyed seeing a different English team involved, sick of the usual lot progressing. Shame about all the trouble though, absolutely no need for that.

read the thread and you'll see, rome fans attacked innocent boro fans... there was no provocation whatsoever.

and loads of english teams have had problems in rome... and i seem to remember leeds fans getting stabbed in istanbul, boro havent had any serious problems at all in europe until rome.

Exactly, English fans following any club or the national team generally get treated like dirt in almost every other European country because of a reputation built up in the 1980's. Italy, along with Turkey and other eastern european teams are the worst offenders. Their 'firms' never travel to England so see home games as a chance to assert superiority over the supposed 'kings of hooliganism.' Even so, it tends only to take place when numbers are massively in their favour and the heavy use of weapons. The police are often no better with random beatings, arbitery arrests etc.

The problem is that it only takes 1 english fan to kick off and it's front page news, yet if 100 Italians for instance attack 30 english with knives and axes it probably gets a small paragraph on page 12. This is why most english people still think english fans are still responsible for most acts of hooliganism.

You should win it with the teams that are left in there , the draw youve got and the fact youve just beat roma you shouldnt have much of a problem ...

Makes a mockery of the fact you cant fill your ground and fans were booing steve mclaren who has won boro the only trophy in there history and looks like getting the wafer cup nall ... How fickle fans can be !

yeah but mcclaren has never endeared himself to the fans... just like souness, he also despite our recent success has played terrible football at times with bizarre tactical changes... i'll give him credit for changing things since villa but he's a lucky man and has a long way to go before he wins the fans over. read this to see one fans opinion... i dont agree with some of it but a lot of boro fans will.

as for the stadium, we dont fill european games all the time because its on telly, most clubs have a similar problem now... we get great attendances for league games ~30,000 is excellent for a town the size of middlesbrough... 35,000 is just a bit too big at the moment, remember we ARE a small club. if mcclaren wins back some of the fans that left then we will excel ourselves once more with attendance, we already get 1/5th of boro's population in the stadium on a matchday. it wasnt that long ago that boro, toon, s'land were playing to half full stadiums... we've come a long way since then :)

The attendence for the Roma game was approx 35000 and thats in an 80000 capacity stadium in a city with a population of millions. Its a problem all over Europe.

    exactly

its not like middlesbrough is unique even in england, attendances are suffering all over. look at newcastle before keegan, its only one example but its something people tend to forget that football has only had its current high profile and popularity for little over a decade.
