Right, get DVDFab, open it and do the following: DVD to Mobile > Generic > Choose DVD source > Choose Target (somewhere on your hard drive). Now there'll be a few things you can rip to avi in the section below but you'll want to look for the one that has the longest play time, or if you're ripping a disk with TV episodes, you'll be selecting several. Put a tick in the check box and choose 'Next'. You can either click on 'Start' to begin the conversion, or goto conversion settings to customize your rip. I advise the latter. You can leave most things but you'll want to make sure you set the file size to whatever it is you want.. 700mb for your average film, or if it's more than 2 hours long or has a lot of action scenes in it, it may be a good idea to set it to 1400mb, You can have it as one 1400mb file, or choose the split to 2cd mode if you'd rather have two 700mb files. If it's TV episodes you're doing, it's standard to use 350mb for 45minutes (things like Lost, Prison Break..) Also make sure you set the encode method to 2 pass if you want the highest quality. It will take longer to rip but if you're keeping things for the future, it's worthwhile. It's all very simple and easy to work out, but use this as a guide if you get stuck
u converting from DivX back to dvd/mpeg2? it's like mp3 back to wav - when it was compressed, stuff is taken out, in compressing video, AVI have each frame indexed, compressing uses GOP same for uncompresing divx's to DVD's - it's had to remove stuff to make it that small. ConvertXtoDVD is the best i've found, just make sure there's loads of chapters in
If you can download a trial version of ConvertXtoDVD 3 this serial should work - 9A5PP-U97K8-CZ34B-FQKAU-RJ625-3 If you get no joy with that, I'll upload my copy which definitely does work with that serial.
