lol its not off topic at all, I'm trying to explain theories that I know very little about... you can read about big bang theories but without understanding the maths behind them you're not understanding anything... its an increibly deep subjects that none of us on this board understand. We have to rely on the dumbed down explanations of these formulas. I'm correlating the Bible with these theories and demonstrating that religion and science aren't diametrically opposed to each other... those that suggest that they are don't understand the theology or the science (from both camps).
I'm sure you can use your intuition on this one. Lets not get into pointless semantics (that I'm not even sure make sense), Occams razor is perfectly applicable here and it's a textbook example. Our existence is no reason to assume that something must have created us, because then you'd have to ask who created him and so on (to which I'm sure there is some kind of handy excuse for him not having to be created)
Not really, we suit this universe because if we didn't we wouldn't be talking about it. Obviously it's not chaotic enough for us to be unable to exist. Maybe if the rules were different, in ways that would crush us to pieces now, we'd have evolved in tandem with them. and it wouldn't be chaotic.
You're assuming a deity is a being rather than a cause, a force... Jewish sages describe G-d as being the most simplistic thnig ever... the yerm HaShem echad or the L-rd is One or All-h is one...a sentiment echoed by the three major Abrahamic faiths means thatHaShem is everything and by default - simple. Butw Occams razor can only be applied to observable phenomena as it relies on rules that govern this universe... As we're stepping outside of the universe it becomes unapplicable. We can look at far off galaxies and assume that the laws of nature are constant as light behaves in the same way - we cannot look otside of the universe... You can state that existence outside of the universe behaves the sameway because that seems like the most simple answer (to you) - but that doesn't make it so.
ok here's a very simple question - if we're relying on chance in the chaos to produce life... how is that life appeared on earth almost immideatly after it formed. It's not just that our planet can support biosystems, but our planet would appear to exist for the purpose of these systems.
woooaaaa - THATS where Joe's been - he's been doing a physics doctorate (long side his rabbi training!)
rely on 'chance' - alot more likely than some super energy/god just creating everything from nowere - obviously it cant be the logical scientific theory which uses fact to back it up, so it must be some sort of god who created everything in 7 days or whatever just for abit of a laugh backed by a really old book
religion doesn't cause wars, people do You tend to find in religious wars that one or both sides subvert their religion and its beliefs in order to make their cause seem just (both christianity and islam are meant to be peaceful religions). if there was no religion whatsoever, there'd still be as many wars as there is now, just for different reasons (oil, race, nationality, etc).
whooo - looked at the religion thread that had 666 views! I know we've a thread on the curious number 56 - but the 666 pops up for me far to often! numbers at work, phone numbers, the tattoo on my son....
