i just think it would be a shame if a culture develops where everyone starting booking each others regular acts... eg. if someone else booked erol alkan, annie mac or fake blood rather than wax on then it would not seem right. those djs reflect the identity of the night.
to be fair though scott spoke to daly about it before we actually booked greg wilson to make sure OK... i'm not sure if this is the case here? if so then apologies. recently a couple of djs who have played for us a numerous times have been booked by another night two months in succession and it would of been nice to of had a call or an email beforehand to discuss in the same way. maybe people disagree with me but i think it would be good to have promoters checking with each other before booking if the DJ is a 'regular' or has played very recently i.e within last 6-9 months. overall up until now i think it has worked out pretty fair. would just be a shame if that all changed.
Oh it's not a big thing at all mate, the 'wink' thing was supposed to show that! I agree with you, but dont think we really count as we're so balearic we only come out in the summer Is there really that many people going out in town to support that amout of bookings in a weekend?
I was gonna say, it does seem that the culture you're on about seems to exist already Danny. It's got a lot to with agents too I reckon. In the last couple of months I've been offered both artists who already have an existing relationship with other promoters and artists who are already booked to play for other promoters, as well as having an artist I'd booked take another booking in Newcastle a month before they were supposed to play for us. Just out of curiosity, how many times do people think a DJ needs to play for a particular night before they're regarded as their regular booking?
I think you will see alot of this going on this year. Also alot of your mainstream nights starting to book your house & techno names too. Did I see FDVoid is booked for a Thursday night at WHQ? Does anyone know which 'big north east promoters' are involved with the 'north easts electronic music festival' happening in June???
root of all evil anyway binni you git. agent just told me a DJ we have been trying to book for over a year ( after checking with previous promoter who he played for ) has now advised him that he owes you a favour and you have got first refusal
This can only be 1 person I know?? He's been asking me to arrange a date with him since I helped him out last year. I think im on the right track here....
We recently lost a long sought after booking because a rival promoter offered the DJ the opportunity to display his wood carving hobby. That stung
That's getting so big that I think I'm going to need the number for that big storage place behind Digital soon
Hahahaha. I only mentioned it as geographical reference. Are you suggesting I'm attempting some kind of Derren Brown style neurological programming?
To be fair I think it's students that run the night your on about n they probably aren't even aware that you've had them on since it's been a while. Some agents are shady as fuck at the moment, a certain DJ has been booked to play in a couple of months even tho he's already playing soon. They don't care about the Newcastle club scene and why should they really they just want bucks. So do the DJ's. Communication between promoters is the answer but there will always be new kids on the block.
tom middleton was fair game really as had been a couple of years and we had not mangaged to tie down another date but lars only played in september. we have spoken with masih since though and its all cool. but yeah it was down to the agent in part.
