I agree and disagree, the messageboard crew in my eyes are the heart of the club, not everyone posts on the board but everyone knows about it or knows someone on it... this is evident whenever I go to promise with camera (they'll ask if tis for the site), I'll have randoms asking if I'm smartie - then telling me they're not on the board, but the real evidence is most promise groups revolve around messageboard members. Every group of regulars has at least one messageboard member in it... Most the regulars are passionate about promise - so those with internet access sign up...

It never used to be the case but now the board has grown, I now think the board is a very good reflection of the club.

(look @ the success of eddie and the trophys, etc.)

I'd be interested in their response 3 months down the line... I've had a lot of people come up to me and complain - guess its easier to have ago at the cute lil blonde guy than it is to have a go @ u ;) :p :D

I would never ever argue with this, the clubs success is through a combination of things (the main one being putting on a quality night in newcastle) - but the messageboard is a big part of this quality night :D

The message board had a huge impact on Promise as a club. It brought a large proportion of the Promise clubbers together and formed a community that existed in the real-world and on-line and made a huge and highly benificial impact this year on Promise.

That was then though. It was part of a growing process which is still on-going, and anyone who thinks it can stay the way it was forever is being foolish. Part of why it worked like it did was that there were a relativly small number of people contributing, most of us knew each other (or came to know each other via the msg brd), and a real sense of cummunity developed.

As it grew it stopped working so well and needed change. This applied to the club too. Growth of any organisation needs to be managed and guided, and this is what is happening. Hopefully the people running Promise have got it right, and IMO the changes will rid Promise of the tings that had become stale and inject some new life into it. The main forum was stale and boring and had outlived it's purpose and I won't miss it!

Whether it's worth keeping what is here now is up to Mark, and I don't care. No harm is archiving the lot tho, so it can be got back if ya ever do wanna

Agree to a degree, but... Just because you and your cluster of friends know each other it doesn't mean the board has lost its functionality...

The board has certainly given birth to strong community, this has been my point... But... Just because this community is established it doesn't mean it wont continue to grow and change... Clubbing is one of the most faddy past times I've ever come across people get bored of it so easy - one year its all they live for the next year they're bored shitless of it.

Not only that but Newcastle is a uni town, next year a lot of freshers will arive (and a lot of old members will leave)... They'll want to be part of a community... The messageboard has served its purpose for you and me - we belong to a community - but for the rookies it still has a purpose.

Promise may of grown and it will continue to grow, the more it grows - the more rookies there'll be... The messageboard is the easiest way for them to get into this community...

If it aint broke - don't fix it :p

True, but you'll never get that big coming-together again!

It wasn't exactly broke, just not really working properly, but as usual, I do agree with most of what you say Joe

I do feel it will be hard for new members to join the community now, however there is so much about promise that we dont know, we have no idea on the impact 'random' has on Promise, therefore as an@rcy rightly said evolve or die, I guess its time to move on to new things.

Everyone has a mate on the board, and maybe the board wont have the same community feel about it, which is sad, but the board was put here (to put it bluntly) as a market research tool, so Mark and Rob could find out what the punters want, with a bit of banter on the side. The banter got out of hand, was stopped, within a day, the board changed to become, more sensible, profesional, to the point, discusion board. Not a "What colour are your underpants today?" bullshit affair.

I can totally understand both sides of this mass debate (hehe) and I will miss the old board, but the old board stopped doing favours to Promise!!!

Yes the board was originally put up as market research tool - but it evolved and turned into something far more important it was the birthplace of the promise community and is one of the biggest contributers to the promise loyalty thing.

Punters could make friends, talk to dj's, talk to promoters, it was (and still is) like no other messageboard... By removing the main forum we will eventually lose this in my eyes.

As for the random impact - I think more damage was done by users slating dj's than talking about their homeowrk... every messageboard has random banter as does every club - when your in promise do you talk about nothing but the dj? No...

The messageboard is the same - its like the promise playground - you catch up with your mates find out their plans for the weekend, its a way of keeping up with the community... It keeps promise on everyones mind 7 days a week - any PR company tell you this is extremely good! Remove this and you risk losing the community...

I still don't see how the random stuff does the club damage, I can see how some posts from the likes of say crasherkid can do a little damage, but then someone like crasherkid has also helped promise... by never being to crasher and calling himself crasherkid - he was the laughing stock of the crasherboard... but in doing so brought promise to the attention of a lot of crasher kids who have since been to promise or are making plans to come to promise - so in his own little way he pulled a good publicity stunt for promise :D (I know mark disagrees on this one but any publicity is good publicity).

I know a lot of marks reasoning and agree with some but disagree with others...

Another thing I've just thought of is that, to use the message board now, u need to know the hierachy etc. This is OK for regular users but some people may be put off by this and decide not to post at all. This will be especially the case for newbies. For example now they don't have anywhere to post the 'Hi, I'm new' threads.

    Mark

I am football person all I can say is that the regulars on this board are the sort who would stand in (Hallam FM)Kop stand @ Hillsborough, rain, hail or shine, Premiership or Division 3 they would also be the first to sing 'sack the board'.

I just had a look at the last thread on mission control, its the first time id seen it and if thats the sort of shit that needs to stop then im all for it. We have been told time and time again to stop the shite posts and we didnt and now its been taken away!!!

Maybe some people use the board for what its meant for, but others dont.

And the end of the day mission control got out of hand and became bollox, when it had potential!

SORRY IF YOU HAVE ALREADY READ THIS BUT I POSTED IT ON THE WRONG THREAD!!

Maybe if some people could just think before they type & remember it is a PROMISE MESSAGE BOARD the main forum will comeback. I must admit apart from
some of the shit posts the main forum is the place where the friendships and the community spirit came from.

I posted this on another thread and most of the people on this message I met for the first time on Friday and that was down to this MESSAGE BOARD

When a club has a heartbeat of regulars like Smartie, Glitter, Jambon, Batfink,Allie2002uk,Miss
    Messy,Princess Jane,Doctor Mick,Mr Revel, Johntystar,Funky1,Wot,Si ,Roz Diamond Phil, Big
Dave,Ness,Sparkles,Lee Foster & of course Jill, Helen & Mark then a club like Promise can not have many if any bad nights in my eyes.
