Barring big events/major clubs I think its like that abroad. I know Turkey had some massive clubs but the dj booths were tucked away at the side so they could view the whole club but not the sole focus!
Clubs arent dark enough these days either Sound becomes instantly better when you cant see your hand in front of your face and you have a freezing cold smoke machine blasting your limbs Steve Lawlers Lights Out night at Shindig (where the club was black) was definitely one the better experiences i have have had in a club.....i was actually frightened at some points
I disagree about the idea of a focal point. Yes people instinctively look to idolise someone or something in alot of the things they are excited about ..... .... But if you wanted to get all 'purist' about everything you could always argue that clubbing was never supposed to be about that in the first place - its just a shame that most things people get interested in become all about popularity contests and money. .... There was a time when the stuff we take for granted as costing 50-100 quid for a night out..... used to be FREE.
why has this thread been moved? its not like we are talking about an actual event that is going to happen?!
Tenaglia started the lights out thing, maybe people are too battered for it. We need something to focus our minds on at times. The Space backroom in Ibiza is a great example of where they have moved the DJ box from the corner of the room right to the middle and everyone is now facing the DJ. Before it was total carnage, buffties on pillars everywhere throwing shapes in all directions. Like Si says, almost frightening.
its funny when you read through this, maybe it was just a ploy for more money, or maybe he quit the night and realised that it wasn't the same now and wanted to get back what he'd worked at for years. People forget its just a big fucking disco, the people who loved promise are happy its coming back, be that a couple of nights or maybe more, but its always the ones who stopped going a while back who feel the need to hammer the promoter. I say good luck to it, the club was always doing well and i doubt he'll let a couple of piss takers bother him when the place starts filling up again
Why is everyone acting like Promise is going back to a regular night? As far as I can see it's a one off night in a couple of months time, something that people were saying would be better than nothing a few months back. That night still pretty much marked the end of Promise at Foundation.
