Things might have changed though. Don't just go shouting abuse until you know whats happened. It's ok to ask questions and i also think it's weird that Promise will be back but like i said earlier, I still think that at the time, Mark was serious about ending it.
yeah i no i will apologise for the manor in which i said i do just feel that its weird. i should of asked mark, and if mark gives an explanation as to why thet have decided to reopen then..... but dont forget it wasnt exactly thriving with people un less eddie or jules were on
High profile nights leave a bitter taste in my mouth these days.... Perhaps its good that Promise backed off from being a monthly night and perhaps, a victim of its punters expectations which in all fairness seems to have shifted from one where you knew people turned up because they trusted the club and promoters.... to one where you got the feeling that the kiddies were just picking and choosing when they would turn up in between trips to other clubs around the country. I think its a good time to let things die off, let people realise what they truly miss when their regular night suddenly dies off ...... It would be nice to turn up to a night and know your going to be entertained by whoever the promoters put on - instead of instinctively scanning the listings first (everyone is guilty of that). You dont see Fabric ramming its brand down everyones throat but that place is permanently rammed, even though i'd like to bet most of the people in there dont know 75% of the DJ's - Its time to go back to trusting the clubs and promotors instead of turning up to wave a glowstick at an overpaid DJ? I doubt very much that theres alot of money to be made from very young clubbers who turn up, dont spend much money and refill their water from the taps. In todays day and age and with the cost of venue hire and whatnot its just a completely out of date business model. .... Either way, i think the north east could do with a decent friday night house/prog/trance(ISH) night on a smaller scale.
i agree - u need to build the following around the night, rather than whoever is on next week... u need decent residents to build the sound around - and Promise had this in the form of Rich and Anton who both had their own trademark styles - and everyone liked them
to get promise back howit was i would have richard as resident and get a young good upcoming dj as resident the is loads ot there. give something to someone who goes to promise a chance to become a resident and please more variety
Maybe the short term future of clubbing is a return to love of the music and the atmosphere, rather than just a load of people turning up to watch a man behind a dj booth playing other peoples records? .... everyone would have to change their ways and habits then - but hey, 10-15 years ago 'apparently' it was more like that?
one of the problems with clubs imo is the positioning of the dj booth there is far too much focus on the DJ , everyone just stands there focusing on the DJ and all facing the same way like the DJ is orchestrating an army of boshed in retards I remember saying this a while ago and when we were at Fabric , Brid actually said that he liked the way you cant see the DJ in room 1 so people dont just focus on the DJ and focus on the MUSIC. As an experiment , I want Habit to do a night where the position of the DJ booth is unknown and I can bet you , people will probably have as good a time , if not better as they wont have to rely on a 'leader' to make them dance
The majority of music is done with a focus point. Bands etc all do it. What amkes a DJ booth different? I used toalways focus on the DJ's but now i just dance around anddont pay much attention to be honest. Not unless thewres something worth staring at.
there no difference Pink Floyd did a gig in London in the 80s where the whole show was done with a big brick wall between them and the crowd and it was reportedly one of the best gigs of all time point proven i think
