These DJ comps have devided the promise community like nothing else could, what was a group of like minded has turned into a slagging match about who is the best DJ. people have fell out with each other and conversations have been had about it being fair and so on.

The truth is there is a huge amount of talent DJ wise amongst you.

You should all be supporting each other, who ever it is that makes it it's gonna be one of you. Someone will get their shot infront of a big crowd and hopefully take it further.

Good luck who ever it may be.

Breaking into the DJ circuit is perhaps one of the hardest things to do in a two bit town like Newcastle. At the end of the day it's about having a good time......let's all be friends again

The Promise guys must have the patience of saints to put up with all this. DJ competitions bring more claims of foul play and paranoia than the old firm and the "who's the mason in the black?" carry ons.

What get's me is all the punters moaning about how the competition works even though there not entering. What's that all about? lol

    Clear it up...

The last thing I want is people misunderstanding the competition. Let me make this following point clear as a bell.

Presentation is not an issue in this competition; I mentioned it as friendly advice for those DJ's who mail out. If you want to stick to your guns and insist on handwritten CD's for future promoters, all I will say is this: Good luck in your bedroom.

For those who have made brash arse headed comments regarding my well-meant advice, I suggest you reread the entire thread and post your apologies accordingly. You cant expect major club establishments to seriously consider handwritten CD’s, without any kind of presentation, when they receive hundreds with professionally produced CD’s in the post every week. You go in the bin. YOU GO IN THE BIN!

This is advice from over 12 years of personal experience through DJ’ing.

Here is an example of good cover work.

I played at Progress, in Derby, at the Time club in Feb 2000. I got that gig because the cover, on my CD was so eye catching; it was a 1210 deck with a hand putting a needle on a record, but it was as a mosaic; the promoters asked if I would do the same to their logo. They listened to the CD and gave me a booking.

If you check the old issues of Mixmag, you will see the Progress logo as a mosaic. This cover got me the gig. Point made?

For those who still keep saying ‘its all about content’ that’s true, but consider this; how will the promoters come to know this quality if the CD looks as if it came out of a bin? It won’t get played; it’s as simple as that. I just can’t seem to make some people understand this point.

Loose the arrogance people. I send hundreds of professionally produced CD’s every quarter. In an average mailout of 200 CD’s to promoters and clubs, I know 95% WILL end up in the bin. Bear in mind I have built up good relations with all the major club owners and promoters during the last 6 years and still my CD’s end up unplayed. Only a small percentage actually reaches the CD players of the intended promoters.

If, after reading this post, you still think you can hand CD’s to promoters without professional presentation, then you must be lazy, arrogant and thick as pig shit.

I hope this gets the message across to those who choose to listen.

Now lets see these bloody CD’s!

    Worn out...

I'm sick of writing the same phrases in a bid to make a fairly simple point.

i agree with that dont worry, the point your making is a gud one

my point is that this promise competition is a chance for unknown bedroom djs aswell as sum established local djs to play in promise, to gain experience and hav a laff, and, like myself, lots of ppl who will be enterin dont hav access to making sweet as cd covers for a competition.

i jus think your comparison to sending a cd to a big club organisation like crasher or GK or whoever, where u havent been invited to send a cd, is totally different to a comp where u hav been invited, there fore the cd dusnt need to stand out in the same way

hopefully u understand the point im tryin to make, i aint tryin to argue or fite:angel2:
