yup same here, i used to be into proggie in quite a big way a couple of years back nowadays i prefer trance much more cos it usually attracts a better crowd, theres a better atmosphere and you cant really get the euphoria from prog that you can from trance but like i've said before expander n my lexicon are two of my top 5 tunes they are absolute works of art but its just a matter of opinion really when it comes to this little debate isnt it....??!!! xxxx

    Nah, it's prog.

Oh, and whoever mentioned Emerson being a prog DJ, bullshit, he plays dirty house.

Thing is, most ppl that call prog shit (more or less everybody on this board!) don't understand it properly.
As I recall, myself, Chris, Orbit and The Spence had a conversation about this on the 20th.
People call it boring? Well ok, each to their own, but I find the harder side of Progressive House exciting, Hard House and Hard Trance, as well as euphoric uplifting, hands-in-the-air Trance all bore me after a while. That's why I like Hardwick, and I enjoyed M.I.K.E so much, not just a set full of massive breakdowns and female vocals, but a set made from peaks and troughs, the more progressive and the uplifting side of Trance :D

People say all prog does is build up and build up, and doesn't kick off? Well ok, what would you expect something called 'Progressive' to do? That's the whole point in it. As Orbit beautifully put it, which I believe was roughly quoted from Mr Simon E, "that's what it's supposed to do, keep building up up and building up in your head, until the end, when it kicks off, and you go mental". It just gently teases you, gradually getting harder and tougher, or sometimes dirtier and darker, until it blows up.

You may not like prog, but without it, many of the UK's Trance nights would not be what they are without it. Musically, nights have to have some kind of direction and natural progression, rather than just blasting out hoovers & horns from 10 o' clock.

A fine example of this would've been Cybertribe (which I played at) on Saturday. A few people on here would've loved the policy.
After a 2-and-a-half-hour B2B extravaganza fm myself, Chris trance_fan, Nick ROcket & DJ Elite, a DJ caleld Nick Rocket kicked it off, really deep and proggy, played loadsa Peace Division-type stuff, and people weren't really stirring (Well, apart from a few of the DJs, played a few corkers, Peace Division Mix of 'Roaches', Killahurtz 'West On 27th', Raff & Freddy 'Deep Progress').
Markus J (HMV) came on from that playing some really deep prog, finishing on a more prog Techno, Intec-style vibe (which was quite hard to follow on from), and people began to get into the sound more.
Halfway into our set everyone was well into. Even ask Eugene (some of you know him, dnt think he's on here), he was even getting into it (he's lying if he says he wasn't, I saw him smiling and dancing in his seat when I dropped the D. Ramirez Mix of 'Soulshaker'!).
Now, after that, came DJ Elite with a Bonzai-style trance set, finishing harder on Organ Donors - 99.9, and into his set, VestaxDJ, playing a Picotto-style, heavily BXR-influenced Tech-Trance set.
Now, Peace Division-style House is very very different from Picotto style Techno, but they were the start and end points, and the night flowed perfectly. Why? A natural progression through the music policy. That's why Prog's useful in places like Promise and Gatecrasher, it bridges gaps and gradually gets you into it.
Believe me, if half of you HH heads walked into Promise at 10:30 to be greeted by something as hard as '99.9' or 'The Prophet', it'd do your head in.

All you non-prog heads, look into it more, try and get an understanding for it, and believe me, you'll change your opinion quickly :D

The top what? Lol you mean that silly chart that was done which brought up a joke of a list...
Most the people voting on that were the once a year clubbers you see at the Arena!

Has anyone noticed how people who listen to prog can't dance? :D

This sort of arguement bores the tits off me its arrogant and utter tosh... Yes prog builds, but so does every other music... Just it takes prog 6 hours to do what any other dance genre can do in 30 minutes, who wants to wait bored for 6 hours for 7 mintues of happiness? I find a lot of techno sets the same.

To enjoy prog/techno you have to really concerntrate on the music, its often extremely hard to dance to (how its classed as dance music is beyond me) as its far to bland and slow.... Energetic music makes people want to dance.... take a latin breakbeat by far one of the most energetic and danceable drum patterns there is....

Prog lacks this.... when I go out want to dance and have a good time for 6 hours - not stand around twiddling my thumbs for 6....

I can understand and appricate a prog warm up (although if the music is anything other than tech or tribal there are more suitable warm up's... i.e. floaty trance.... max graham type prog trance, hard trance.... matt hardwic type floaty trance ), I just can't tolerate a night of prog... Your night seems to of followed a logical structure though.... although maybe not my cuppa :D

Wasn't my night, jus somewhere I was booked for :D

Each to their own though. It would be a sad world if everybody liked the same thing. I love Prog and proper Techno, and you like Hard and Psy-Trance,.
At least you appreciate Prog though, which is suppose is still a bit of a compliment from Mighty Joe :)monkey: )! :p
