I run both Safari and Firefox on MacBookPro with osx 10.4.11 and the board is terribly slow via Firefox, and often times out or fails to load, but its awesome with Safari

conway, i'm getting reports from about 4-5 people that the board isnt actually loading up for them, they are using both IE and FF as well - dont know whats going on there since it's working ok-ish for me...?

    is it really that unstable?

Not any more, the pages are on a new server which will stop the PHP errors.

The database is still on the old server, I'm looking at sorting that now.

People might be getting a random "it works page", but that should have stopped in the last 10 mins or so.

The easiest way to tell if you're browsing via the new server is by going to here.

If it says "Kernel Version 2.6.27.10-grsec-xxxx-grs-ipv4-64 (SMP) x86_64", you're viewing the board via the new server and shouldn't be getting any errors.

If it says "Kernel Version 2.6.18-4-686 (SMP) i686" then you're still viewing the board via the old server and will get the odd PHP error.

You don't need to do anything - you'll start seeing it on the new server once your DNS refreshes on your local PC. Usually this takes a couple of hours but can take up to two days to change over.

The problems with the other server have been doing my tits in - I've been unable to get to the bottom of it, so a move seemed to be the only option.

We're half over now - the board pages are on the new server, the database is still on the old. Once I can get the database moved, we'll have everything on the new box and I'll shut the old one down.

Sorry it took so long to sort out everyone :)

just checked the link's above conway - looks like i'm on the old server! i'll refresh my DNS over later on hopefully that will sort it out.

so is there no real clue into why these PHP errors were occuring?

The webserver doesn't understand PHP, so it has several PHP modules to read it (kind of like dictionaries).

When one of these modules is broken, you get symptoms similar to what we've seen over the past week.

Only thing is, I've fixed and replaced every single php library and module over the last fortnight and whilst it's reduced the scale of the problem, it still hasn't gone away...

The server keeps logs of everything that happens, and I'm not seeing any PHP related errors anywhere, making this a right ballache to fix.
