Belta, I knew this would get ya's going. :D

    Quick Fix:

What you're saying here is a ridiculous argument. You're effectively saying - well if you don't like one bit of technology then you shouldn't use anything that makes everyday life easier.

We're talking about a skilled activity, not going into town to look round the shops - modern cars haven't made driving any easier - they've just made the production/manufacture of them easier - it's probably harder if anything coz there's more stuff to go wrong

Like a few people have said - I go to see the whole show - someone doing something and getting into it (somehting which is very hard to do when you're using a mouse!!) - not just listen to the music, if that's all I was arsed about then I could just get a Fabric CD, or some mix from XXX and sit in my front room admiring how well it's been put together.

Whether you like it or not DJing requires some skill, and tune selection isn't the only one, I don't believe as I'm sure you don't, that anyone can learn to beatmatch, it's like saying anyone can be good at drumming, or playing an instrument, it's just not true. Some people are tone deaf, some have no rhythm, that's the diversity of life.

If you've read my intial post, I think that if it's used properly, like how Chris Liebing uses it, then it's a great bit of kit. But like everything (downloading mp3s to play out, for example) it is open to abuse by people who can't be arsed to put the effort in but want to get results - and you must acknowledge that there are quite a few wannabe/bedroom DJs that can't mix for shite, but there tune selection is fairly good, and they still want to get the overall effect, and "be a DJ".

No-one is talking about getting rid of technology - we're simply discussing the pros and cons of using it, and how it should be used correctly.

At the end of the day, it's like saying "is a real drummer better than a drum machine?" Obviously it's less hassle to have a drum machine - but does that fact that even a lot of dance acts use live drummers not tell you something - the human element is better, and your not doing anything on a drum machine that a real person can't do.

Technology should be used to do things that we could NEVER do ourselves, that's what makes people like aphex twin good, coz they are pushing the boundaries of these programs to there limits.

they could have you playing and cheat the punters...use the superstar name on the posters.

im sorry i just dont know where DJing goes from here...its all gettin a bit too automated for me. Next thing you know Bang & Olufsen will be the next big duo to book!

That's even more ridiculous than the last thing - how can trying to sync all that kit together and play it live be compared to using one program on one computer to mix tunes together.

You're taliking out of your arse there like - there is no comparison.

Hairy: aye m8, nail on the head 'a skilled activity'

and yup, too easy for kids or whatever to want to jump on the easy way to do this bandwagon and think they're a dj. there is so much more to the 'job' than most ppl can comprehend

thats not mechanical, anyone could do that. from the only time ive seen him and all the hype that surrounds him, i dont rate him at all. his music was good, but nothing stood out to the amount of praise that follows him

they're not trying hard enuf then, nothing is impossible to those that put the effort in. implying otherwise just means your too lazy to do so or want 'the easy way out'

ive seen him once, he didnt do what i expected... does this mean the times he does things is just a mere flook?

im not a typical turntablist - i play house music.... and 3000 baby scratches would just hurt ur arm... doing 2 click flares would be less stressfull, sound better, and there would be more than 3000 sounds ;)

when i started a dj was standing alone at the back of the room watching everyone else enjoy themselves... doesnt sound very cool to me, and so ive never played on the fact that i play records to people

Christ you get home from work and its all kicked off.

Still love Vinyl really feel you get better bass out of records compared to mp downloads on the cd deck that i have been using.

Saying that when i played punk and indi in clubs it much easy to play from cd as you can tke more stuff with you.

yup, however, like it or not, a dj is an artist who entertains ppl, so the more they put in to their 'act' the more your going to get out of it.

dont get me started on 'set building' and all the rest of the crap that revolves around it...
