We've just spent all afternoon sorting our loops out to play some of our set off ableton tonight! After reading some of these posts I'm afraid if we play it out we won't be 'purist' anymore!!

a good answer you must work for the RIAA or PPL

so your saying all the cd's you play out are either your own productions or retail discs?

regardless, using cds are boring, even up to the point of having to wait for it to load

Its far too easy now to put yer own production, or loop onto a media format you can play out....because of this everybody is doing it, and has to to keep up against all the other competition out there. The same goes with new tracks, you download them , burn them from mp3's you have in your collection simply so you can stay up against the competition.

Technology has made it easier for more and more DJs now to get hold of new tracks, plonk on CD and play out. If you dont do it these days you get nowhere as the competition is massive.
Theres so many people now doing the same thing, so quickly, churning out tunes, putting them on CD and playing them out. What happened to the time it takes to get signed, to then come out on Promo to which felt like gold dust when you got it before anyone else for £20 or whatever.

Now its just like 2 hurds of sheep running for the same exit in the fence and only one gets through when the farmer (music industry) decides to open the gate. Theres too much too soon.

not relavent at all, your talking about technology outside of djing, my comment was made solely about djing.

up until technics brought out the 1200, ppl could do shit loads on a deck, most of the tricks now come from someone standing infront of a belt drive deck and playing out

try hard dj.... not that complicated "that looks cool, i want a go" or "they get paid how much for playing music?" or "hey u have decks, give me a go.... now im a dj just like you" or "its fuckin easy, you put on a song and your a dj... instant coolness"

theres nothing better having the freedom to move the arm, ride the grooves and jump the tracks than having to fast forward a whole 1 minute 20 just to get to the cue point you need (if you dont have a memory card of course ;) again technology making it easier.

oh yea... seen this a couple of times aswell and thought i better comment on it:

    'vinyl purists'

ive been using cd dex regularly since about 1995, i work on a ship, 2 weeks on, then 2 weeks home, so i use cd dex 14 nights in a row... so no, im no purist, rather someone who has experience in both fields of play, and know which one is the better

aye, my point worded differently you bastard (stop nickin my shit of a msn winda! )

the freedom to be able to just put the track on there and then from the place u want it is way better than having to kill your buzz waiting for a disc to read, then find the cue point by skipping through the entire track... its completely lost if at the last minute u decide its the wrong track... what then?

i prefer vinyl but id be a lot worse off without my cdj

i would be able to play half the tracks i get sent off labels + other producers, or indeed my own if the technology option wasnt there.

having a program be able to mix it for you has been around for a while, eg. acid, iamix, mixmaster, etc. i remerber ta had a set by gtr mixed in acid + nobody complained then.

when it gets to the point that a dj isnt actually doing it, or cant even mix without the software/technology its daft.

but by me, if the stuff used in a positive manner is mostly beneficial

those are the mainstream commercial bambu types Spence.....

this argument is for those who like entertainment value, problem is, the way technology is going all you see lately is a guy clicking a mouse. nice way to spend £15 on one night.

fed up of seeing some sorry ugly faces chewing wasps with more sweat than a fat lass in a chippy and the same old same old musical expressions.

my two graphophone's are in the shop having rca leads fitted.

i dont use belt drives coz a: i do more than play the record from start to finish, and b: as we've had the discusion before, most places use 1200's and adapting each time is crap.

as for jimmy zab, its all hype in my opinion, used to sell pioneer gear.

you should check out dj shadows 'in tune and on time' dvd m8... 2 decks, 2 cdj1000s, 3 mixers, 3 efx500's and a mpc sampler. he uses them all and is a big eye opener to watch.. it was recorded in 2002, before the big jimmy zab media explosion ;)

always wanted to attend fabric too, good job i dont go to clubs to see DJs play anymore init. (by the way if ya think thats a contradictory comment to what ive been ranting on about think again - ive stopped me djing cos i have been bored and am just focusing on good nights out, with drink and no drugs, easy women, and good crack.. rather than comments like "did ya hear that mix...how good?" or "what a tune!!! ive got this on mp3" and a severe come down the next week).
