Exactly! Whether you like or have ever liked trance he played a massive part in what influenced clubs in the 90's and even turned a lot more Americans onto dance music - dont know if thats a good thing though!?

Didnt Oakey play a part in Shoom anyway? Im sure i read somewhere that it was a product of his and Ramplings visit to Ibiza?

Nah oakenfold had nothing to do with shoom just went to ibiza the same time as Danny he was around 28 at the time he went to shoom saw its potentail and then open Spectrum at Richard Branson owned Heaven nightclub.

He has had serious plastic surgery as well.

Just like there poeple worth at alot praise from the early days than oakenfold in the uk such Eddie Richards,Mr C and all the clinc street boys plus 808 State and Sasha from the Manchester Scene.

He has obviously massively sold out and lost all heart now etc which is a shame.

However, imo without doubt at his peak he was easily one of the very best/influential DJ's we have ever had.

I have never in nearly 15 years seen a DJ create the same atmosphere that he did when I saw him at Cream in 97 (Courtyard) and then a couple of years later at Gatecrasher Lotherton Hall. Sure his mixing was average at best but that didn't matter.

On a side note, he is actually supposed to be a really sound guy. Remember when he played the Uni years back and he ended up playing arcade footy with my mate Graeme in the back room.

Also, GU New York, Fluoro and Goa Essentail Mix are all ace.

I saw him at cream in the early days and he still could not touch sasha back then.imo

Sasha could mix and played al ot better trance back then still you right about pefecto fluro and the goa mixes but i always thought the label was more to do with the man with No name than okenfold.

Is cream's old veune nation still going.

Cream and later Bugged out were great there that was in my clubbing honey period and most clubs seemed at that point to have less scallys than Rez or Judgement day in 1996-1999.

God i feel old now especialy full of cold with aching joints.

I had this little gem on the other day:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Voyage-into-Trance-Paul-Oakenfold/dp/B00005AWID"]Amazon.com: A Voyage into Trance: Paul Oakenfold: Music@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/411KSGX6W2L.@@AMEPARAM@@411KSGX6W2L[/ame]

Psy back then was a lot better than it is now. It was more proggy and didnt have those stupid basslines.

I also love this cd as well - some massive trance, hidden classics and a touch of that psy he brought to the UK:

Digital is nothing compared to the ammount of scallys that took over Nation when Cream was on its way out.

Like you say - when theres that many goons trying to get in its always going to be a problem.

    A man with taste! :D

The crowd noise adds to the whole cd too! Its something id always have on before id go out clubbing. Those days are long gone now though!

Ive got a signed GU New York from when he did the launch tour at Newcastle Uni ... He wouldnt give one to me, but incredibly (not) enough he was more than happy to give on to my then, 19 year old, and scantily clad girlfriend - Perv

Still got the CD at home!
