I have! tried running a trance night there. went for about a month but we only really had mates in so at the most there was about 30 people. Sunderland is a major no no, but if you want to do it, go for it.

As for line-ups try pick a varied one. maybe get some techno in there. pick out some of your fave tunes by less well known people, see if they dj. get local dj support aswell. local djs bring local mates!! your just starting so dont try n book the names yet!

I, personally, think you should try and run a night thats sort of indie-disco-ish. like electro and this nu-rave bollocks.

Like someone said, sunderland is full of indie kids.

On a saturday night their is fuck all to do, apart from Ku, which is all 80's bollocks or Independent, which is canny shit.

Plus you can get Erol Alkan to play :D :D :D

But that would be shit and boring and exactly what sunderland doesnt need more of.

Cool, what was your night called? I dont remember any big nights running here, who did you book?

Anyway I'm not just starting out mate, been at this for years now. Local talent doesnt generate any interest, even more so now because people dont want to pay to get into a club when they can go to bars like the spider. Quite simply, there is absolutely no reason for people to go clubbing - I've done myself the past few times I've been out, we'll just stay in bar until 4am.

Late licenses are partly to blame, its getting more like this in every city but Sunderland is the worst I've seen. You have to give people a good reason to go somewhere. Maybe its different in Newcastle, I dunno....

I dont think you can just say 'people in Sunderland dont like trance/house'

i bet theres loads of people who do....you just need to make them aware of what you lot are doing, whats good about it and why they should come.

Also why not work with what youve got? If the bars are more popular then apply to a bar....you will probably have to tone your music policy down but its a start and if you end up doing a good job then you'll be more likely to secure a proper venue.

    Because its confidential!

Anyhow, this discussion is way off topic. I didnt ask how to run my night I just wanted some opinions on DJs. Bit of market research that was all.

I'm afraid I can't discuss any further how/why/where this night will be run. Thanks everyone!

You're playing repetitive music to people on drugs, its not exactly MI6 standard information is it?

'OH MY GOD! DJ PETE B HAS DROPPED ADDAGIO FOR STRINGS'
