I've got nothing against Promise or Judge Jules, but even I think the use of the word 'turntablism' is stretching things somewhat.

don't think flyers are filled with meaning as a rule. they are meant to make you look at them and hopefully read it. Most flyers look like flyers ie the same as flyers have always looked. crammed with 'artwork' and photoshop filterage and too much going on.
The Habit ones do have a 'message' though. that flyer says is 'we are cool we are modern we are different and we are not sweaty gurners' the fact that there are fish is incidental.
I'd call that a bit of successful design.

Lol Melt you need to chill man. The Habit promo (for me) is easily the most attractive & sleek out of all the nights that post on here, im sure by putting 2 fish on their promo it has no 'hidden message' or is really suppose to stand for anything?....it just looks good.

As for the Judge well personally I think he's one of the cleverest blokes in dance music. He's been at the heartbeat of clubland since illegal raves fizzled out & clubbing went mainstream & still to this day packs a Venue, regardless what people think of him. He has a weekly Radio1 show thats still massivley popular, has a weekly night over in Ibiza thats been qutoed to have been at it's busiest this year & not so much now but used to head his own DJ agency host to some of the biggest & best there is/was. He's a clever bloke in my eyes, I have massive respect for him & what he's done. I last seen him at Evovle & hand on heart I couldn't fault his mixing, he was seamless from start to finish. I had this conversation with Geordie a few weeks back about all the DJ's that have came over the years, peaked for a period of time, then dwindled off into the sunset yet Jules still seems to be steaming round & packing Venues, granted music wise he may not appeal to some of the 'purists' but he fills Venues, full stop. Together/Promise should do well off him with the Students being back.

Oh btw Danny, thos fish are sooooo last week:camp: HaHa;)

    Amen.

Add Eddie, Sean Tyas, Lisa Lashes, Scott Bond, Matt Hardwick, Push/M.I.K.E to that list to name but a few. If it weren't for him there DJ careers would still be in shitty bars & a bedroom.

He was also the 1st promoter/night to give people like: Tiesto, Armin, Ferry, Marco V Ibiza slots....before they'd either been snapped up by Cream or started there own nights.

Well you could say that but then we wouldn't have had nights such as Gatecrasher in its hayday... and some of the DJ's that graced it.

each to their own I suppose, im not trying to make out he's a Hawtin or Zabiela, I just resepct what he's done over the years & think it's very clever the way he's managed to still stay 'Marketable' to the club kids at the age he's at & for the length of time the blokes been around.

    I will give him that.

He must know the right poeple in the industry in london plus because of radio one he brings numbers into clubs.

But he is lightyears away from what i like about dance music and raving in general so i don't respect him at all really.

To market him as having serious talents on the decks is hirlarious i bet he does not even play records.

you're getting even more snobbier about vinyl with every post sunshine

i love vinyl and it's what makes a DJ for me - BUT i don't narrowly define DJing to JUST vinyl. is he the worlds BEST turntablist? no way. but he still has skill - or else he would have been found out many moons ago

The key word is turntablist how can you be a turntablist if you don't use turntables.

I am not a snob just have taste IMO they are two different things.

    So do i.

But the judge never has been a turntabilist who ever wrote that has no clue to what it actual means.
