James Talk was playing the '2nd room' at the Cooperage for Grenade vs Calcutta. A D'n'B night, the lads who run use the ncsl-beats board instead of this one seen as theyre aint many D'n'B heads on here....

well it's definately getting interesting - there's way more venues being used regularly for different monthly friday night parties than there ever has been, with Digital, Cosmic Ballroom, Reds Bar (Northumbria Uni), The Cooperage, The Red Rooms and now it seems like the Loft is also jumping into the same market... all now trying to host different independent mainly electronic music promoters every Friday night of the month.

that's around 20-25 different independent promoters per month needed to fill each of those nights, never mind the stuff on saturdays at the university, and the other rooms.

3 years ago there was virtually only foundation and the red rooms (with 2am license) available to independent electronic music promoters on fridays, and the university on saturdays with most other stuff being done on midweeks from what I can remember, so that's quite a big jump in venues to be filled each weekend.

it's good in some ways, but I do wonder how sustainable it is unless newcastle manages to really start attracting more people to come clubbing in the city from the surrounding areas, or properly converts a load more students on mass.

    we'll see eh

thats what newcastle lacks compared to say leeds. there'll be a lot more north easterners visit leeds than yorkshireman heading north.

Look what happened with Morning Sickness. Great night, good crowd, no trouble - stopped by the council/police because they couldn't face the fact that something like this can work up here.

what's wrong is that a few complaints from nimbys is never balanced against the hundreds who would get pleasure from it. Newcastles policy never takes them into account. probably cos they're the sort of people who never vote

at least people are getting of their arses and trying to do something rather than just sitting saying they cant get a break.
something ive always said about getting on as a dj is to try and do something yourself rather thamn bombarding promoters with mix cds.

people moaned when there was nothing but shindig and nice to choose from now the city has lots of choice

I'm pretending to be Morman next job. Two lads at my old work were - they never had to work Sundays and got to leave early on Wednesday as it was their 'social night'
