Northumbria is a little dated, as is Sunderland although they have had a lot of money put into it in recent years. Teesside however is the most up and coming university in the north. All buildings and facilities are new and up to date, and all in close distance of each other, not spread about all over the place. Student uni is by far one of the best in the country. Saying all this, you need to choose which university is best for your course really.

you'd be surprised tom, its computer and techy departments are outstanding. its had loads spent on it and is a pretty good new university, especially for locals.

just so happens you get pikey scumbags around some of the campus sites.

People only ever make note of how good a universities 'facilities' are if there is nothing else worth mentioning.. and It's all good and well having facilities, but if the teaching and research isn't there to back it up its all pretty insignificant.. Somewhere like Teesside or Sunderland will never compete in the scheme of things, it would be ludicrous to think that an IT/Computing degree from Teesside even comes close in terms of carrying the same level of education and employment oppurtunities that you would get from universities like Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds etc.

A degree from Teesside isn't worth shit.

bollocks, neither is one from northumbria by that reckoning. a degree is a degree and certainly puts you ahead of many other applicants. the big uni's might be more attractive to some employers but in the scheme of things a degree puts you in good stead... as long as its not in history of art or some othe mickey mouse course.

teesside is not the best in maybe geography or english. but it has one of the best if not THE best computing department in the country. it is a centre of excellence in computing, games and animation, web and multimedia.

a degree from that department would be highly valued as the university is ahead of most others. just like northumbria and coventry are the leaders in DFI and graduates are sought after and headhunted.

Teesside has been in the top 5 most improved uni's for something like the last 8 years...

didn't have much of a starting point i know!

but as smog said on the computing side of it its probs the best in the north east...

and the sports sci course is good IF you have specialised in something the uni excels at...

an i'm getting taught by the boro fc nutritionalist :p

but on the other hand it is shite cos they accepted me...

    are you taking the piss?

best computing department in the country?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/section/0,,6734,00.html - please find me a scrap of evidence apart from local press and the uni pr machine that supports this..

as for DFI - ever heard of Loughborough- the most famous design based uni in the UK? how about Birmingham and UMIST? Look at the leauge tables..

as for the northumbria degree being worth the same as the teesside degree...

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/gra...f;jsessionid=SBUP2W5IRBC41QFIQMGSFF4AVCBQWIV0

surely that negates any value of a newcastle degree too? ;)

No longer exists. And you can't use the Times' university rankings solely, as an indication of what are good and bad universities. The Times' rankings are pretty inconsistent, aside from the top five, which always consists of the same universities (Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, UCL).

Teesside is not the best university in the country for Computer Science. Whilst it might be alright, it's never going to be better than an age-old red-brick with an enormous annual endowment.
