    Without a doubt.

Drinks, food, clubs etc all cost pretty much the same as anywhere else- it's just rent costs that are so much higher.

It was quite eyebrow raising seeing what i could rent in newcastle when i was up a few weeks ago for even HALF what i spend right now on rent.

.... the 550 notes a month it cost me to rent a ROOM in Richmond would have gotten me an entire brand new 2 bedroom city centre flat in newcastle. Nuts.

I love it here, plenty to do and see and plenty of opportunities but away from the hubris of many of the people further south.

The North East of England is quality. Travel outside the main cities and you've got amazing countryside and places to visit. I love Northumberland and totally took it for granted when I was younger, but I'm grateful I live here now.

It's shite like this "think tank" write up that discourage people/businesses from moving up here.

It's pretty good when you're older too - lots more going on in terms of theatres, galleries etc. Depending on your interests of course. Also, depending where you live it is still very easy to get out into the countryside.

As an agoraphobic a room in London is gonna have pretty much the same qualities as my room in the North East :(

Lived in some shitholes in my time inculding Barrow and Morecambe. Have to say that Taunton in Somerset is the fucking worst. South West considered 'down south'?

You think the the south is bad, you want to try living here in Norway. I pay a grand a month for a 1 bedroomed converted loft here in stavanger. Everything here is just so expensive. The only upside is the scenery.

That's right, you're the one who believes you'll get mugged the second you step off the train aren't you?

Still live at home by any chance?

i love the north - but hate the wages + weather. i think i'd live down that there london in my 20's just for the experience but then return to my roots later in life.
