in a lot of countries you have to sort your own private medical insurance as there is no nhs

america an example - read something in mirror today, a bullet lodged in a lasses eye but she had to leave hospital after 3 days coz her medical insurance didnt cover it

i think we shud be thankful to have a service like we do, there are a few cockups and stuff wey aye, and people get pissed off at waiting times but haway - when have you ever enjoyed queuing? no offence intended but if youre on a waiting list you can guarantee someone is in front of you who NEEDS it more

Its not just the waitijng times tho is it ... Its the quality of the facilities the lack of staff and beds . it all adds up to being a poor service . Dont get me wrong im gl;ad its there and feel it needs to be there but until its overhauled . tret properley by the government and funded better then your always going to get a better all round performance from the private places ! :)

I'm with AXA PPA - through work like.

Went for keyhole surgery on the right knee in Nov 06. From being referred at the Docs I was under the knife in a month. The clinic was more like a hotel - I could have stopped there all week.

I'd recommend it if you can aford it.

Fair point.... my work pays for mine.

It's maybe more useful when a bit older.

when I had my car crash it was obvs straight to an NHS hospital.

It only had one female ward so I was in with all the expecting mothers, bleeding and trippin off the morphine.

And they cut my clothes off and left me on a trolley with my pups hanging out and my fishnets ripped up to my thighs.

It was not a good look!

sounds horrible, hope your all right now :)

when i was about 10 i got a 2 footed challenge to my right leg from behind by an older lad wearing studs, it broke my leg. fibula and tibia smashed in 2 places and fractured ankle. my mates older bro carried me to me grans house and because i got a lift in and not an ambulance it meant i had to wait about 5 hours in waiting rooms until i could get a Dr to fix it. they didnt give me any pain killers or owt and i was delirious with the pain, i wasnt amused. To make matters worse im sure they used an apprentice wall plasterer to do my cast cos the job was that bad.

fact of the matter it's not free - we all pay thru our NI payments.

if i could opt out, i would and pay the same amount into a private healthcare plan

Theres some decidedly borgeois people on here  :D

Joking aside.... just proves how much the NHS is in MASSIVE need of reform... its clear that for alot of people its letting them down time and time again, costs each and every one of us a significant amount of money in various taxes and is getting progressively worse as time goes by.

The tories suggested an opt in health service a while back..... might be something worth examining again.

the NHS deals with a much larger demographic than the private sector - you can't compare waiting times as it would result in misleading statsitics.

Waiting times and the intricacies of the finer details of statistical arguments aside ........ the system isnt working or improving like it should be as time goes by.

With an ageing population... things can only get worse.

Perhaps its time to spend less money fixing up drunk people in A&E or paying for breast augmentations for 15 year old girls ..... there clearly needs to be change and i would personally relish more choice in where my hard earned money goes, rather than have 60% taken before i get a chance to spend it.

    It aint working.

Waiting times are going up while productivity has dropped year on year for the past 7 years now... while spending goes UP.

Unfortunately... i like the idea of an NHS, but like alot of our old antiquated sytems like the tubes in london and our entire rail network.... you have to wonder whether or not these things should just be completely scrapped and started again.

Other countries put us to absolute shame with so many other things - but who has the balls to make these changes eh....
